Spiderwick Chronicles???

So I really would like to read the Spiderwick Chronicles books before I watch the movie. So I went to the library today to get the first one, and of course, they're out of all of them. They say there's a waiting list of 9 people at this point! So, would you say the books are good enough to purchase? Did you like them?
