I was interested in seeing what it cost to live in different parts of the country as well as throughout the world. I live in the Baltimore area, if you want to buy a townhome here they start at about 300,000 and if you want to own a house they start right around 400,000. What about in your area? I want to own a house, but I dont know if I can afford that, but Ill keep saving :)

You must live and be looking in the nicer more expensive Baltimore Areas. My parents didn't pay nearly that much to buy a townhome. The newer homes they are building cost that much, but if you buy an older home that's been around a while you can easily still get them for less than 300,000.... and it be a single home.

I am not looking at anything on the East or West side, or anything reminiscent of "The Wire." We know how dangerous this city is. I am talking about the area's of town that you can actually live in without having to worry about someone breaking into your home in the middle of the night, and the area's where you dont have to worry about being shot while walking to your car. Right now I am in the Roland Park section of Baltimore which is a little "well to do" but I know it is safe. Also if your parents bought a house many years ago I would assume that it is worth a lot more now.

Well you can disagree with me but my statement is presented with facts :) I do actually know people in the city who have parties... and leave their house completely open. They've left their house for events that are going on in the city so that friends can hang out at the house. I know a few people who do this. There are safe neighborhoods in the city. I also know that we have higher crime rates than New York and LA...but at least we're not number 1. and the reason that the housing is expensive is because that's how the idiots in politics think they can solve crime. Raise prices and the "bad" people have to move.

Well, in Delhi the price for a house is very high, and maybe the price for a two room flat starts from Rs15,00,000 to Rs30,00,000 and all depends upon the area, i might be wondering what currency you are talking about, is that $3,00,000 or Rs3,00,000,,,

I am talking about US$ $1=Rs40.2018. So a 2 bdrm flat for Rs3000000 would cost about 75,000 US dollars. A $300,000 home here in the US would be Rs 12060004.41

I live in Pittsburgh PA and with such a wide variety of homes here there is no real medium price range. The city of Pittsburgh is broken up into little townships. Each of them being different then the other in home prices. For instance the township I live in the medium price range for a house is around $80,000.00 but the houses are all around 100 years old. Three miles down the road the township is newer and there medium price range is around $200,000.00. I was looking at two houses that are for sale in another area last week. I drive by them frequently and wanted to see what they were going for. The one is going for $375,000.00 five bed rooms four and a half baths. The other three houses down is going for $230,000.00 it is four bed rooms and 2 baths, but is about 40 years older. I found a great house well below the medium price range of $80,000.00 in my area. Four bed rooms two and a half baths, 3 stories and a basement all for under $60,000.00 its an OLD house but I love it. With foreclosures on the rise look into them. You can find a house for next to nothing these days. I just looked at a place with a friend it a whole $6,000.00 shes looking some more but some thing to think about. Good luck! By the way my husband was just in Baltimore and said he could never move there beause of the crime. Said he kept the doors in the hotel double locked.

I live in a 'country' area basically. Many people from Baltimore actually come live there to get away from the city. And I've heard some of the plots of land and homes go for over a million. And if you're lucky you can get a nice plot for 400,000. Sometimes it is cheeper but it all depends on where it is like in the cities.

Good Question; No harm in asking. Where I live in the deep south in the Mobile, Alabama area, it truly depends. I have seen houses sell for as little as $29K(depends on the area of course) to as high as $1 million plus in others. the average is like about $100G-$300G. I have seen companies in town say they can build one a house for under $100,000. If you wish, send an addy, and I'll send you the real estate books that are here. just so u can compare. Peace.

I have heard that the cost of living is higher in that area. I'm in indiana and houses average about 100,000 to 200,000. although it is very possible to get a decent one for 80,000 it just depends on what you want.

Northern Ohio, Southern Michigan you can get a nice one for around 140K. Housing prices seem to be up all over the country, except here.
