Wrong Profession

So many of us make the wrong choice when choosing our career and then we end up feeling so trapped and miserable. I was always the quiet student who got along well with my peers and so it did not feel out of place to become a teacher. Well you never understand the full strength of a river until you get into it. Lets just say that after nearly five years I reached my limit and walked away from the job of teaching. The funny thing is that I do enjoy teaching and do well at it. Poeple refer to me as being a natural teacher but I just want nothing to do with constantly being incharge of students, marking papers, writing lesson plans etc.... I love to interact with poeple, do public speaking, engage in lively disscussions, do voluntary work etc...... but all in my own time. I find that once I feel boxed in and and too 'programed' or stifled by any situation, event or person I,ll just drop everything and distance myself from the 'offender'. Now that I think of it, even as a child, as much as I would run around and play with my friends and siblings there was always that time when I needed to have my alone time. This could be the time when I just read, watch TV, listen music, sit in the quiet and think. Whatever I do in this time the key is that I be alone to hear myself think. This I think is what does not work for me and teaching. As a teacher there's scarcely any alone time and I feel my space as been breeched. My alone time is that time when I just rejuvenate and refresh myself. Even in a relationship partners need their own space. Right??????

I never got the chance to pursue the career I always wanted to have but I have accepted that. I work for the federal government now and it is so far from what I dreamed of doing with my life but it pays the bills and keeps me and my family comfortable so I cannot complain. But you are right, the things you like to do and the need for your own quiet time wouldn't make you a very good teacher, at least I don't think so.

Oh I was a good teacher and do well at the profession. I just found that no matter how hard I tried to stick to it my misery increased. It is said that everything happens for a reason so now I take it strides to ensure I select the best career for me in the future.
