What is true love? Read and appreciate... It was a busy orning in the clinic, approximately 8:30 , when an elderly gentleman in his 80's, presendte himself to have his stitches removed from his thumb. He stated that he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 09:00. After taking his vital signs, I had hi take a seat, knowing that it would be over an hour before someone would be able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and I decided, since I was not busy with another patient, to check on his wounded thumb. On exam,it was healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got theneeded supplies to remove his stitches and redress his wound. While his wound is being taking care of, we began to engage in a conversation. I asked him if he had a doctor's appointment this orning, as he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no, but he needed to to the nursing home to eat breakfast wiht hi wife. I thin inquired as to her health. he told me that she had been there for a while now, and that she was a victim of Alzheimer Disease. After I finished dressing his wound, I asked him if his wife would be worried if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he is, and that she had never recognized him for the last five years now. I was surprised and asked him again, "And you are still goin there every morning, even though she doesnt know who you are?" He smile as he patted my hand and said, "She doesnt know me, but I know who she is". I had to hold back my tears as he left. I had a goose bump on my arm and thought, "that is the kind of true love I wanted in my life." True love is neither physical nor romantic. True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be and will not be.
