Where do i start in affiliate marketing?

I have been searching for many places on how to do internet marketing or affiliate marketing but there seems to be so many products and so much information to sieve through. Is there any one stop for all to pick up the real basics so i can get somewhere first?
I also don't have a benchmark in earnings for a newbie starting out. For all those experienced guys, what were you making when you started out? And how fast did you climb?

I have read your request about affiliate marketing very well, because I have been searching the internet as well for 3 months. I have tried many programs (with a moneyback guarantee), but in my opinion only 3% of the people that start such kind of business will succeed.
