I think you are partially right. but believe me i have seen some responses where there is nothing to say other than thank you. i may be wrong as it is my observation. commenting is good as the person know you have read the response at least.

Well, I always take time to respond back to anyone who takes the time to respond to one of my discussions I have started, and always go and check out one of the discussions that person has started to see if I can answer one of theirs in return. I feel it is only fair to do so even if it takes more time to respond back to everyone. It is Good to see someone who also feels this way though.

Well, there are a number of valid points in the above comments. Some responses are very difficult to answer with more than a thank you. It depends on how obligated you feel to respond. If you go to that person's discussions and answer one of their's in turn, they might figure out you did so from their response, and the exchange back and forth of responses is a very good way to go about things here. On the one hand thanking people can be very time consuming but on the other I find myself feeling ill over not taking the time to respond to one person but I did for another. I feel if anyone has taken the time to respond I at least owe them a thanks. But I like your idea of responding to one of their posts, I am going to give this a go!
