I would like to know how to keep indoor cats happy. I don't think its safe to let them outside, but I know that they are hunters by nature. How can you keep them safe and happy? Any tips?

My cats are indoor cats and I let them out for a little bit and they love it. I watch them though. Also you'd be surprised what they will play with. My cat plays with a rubber band and she loves it. You got to be creative. It's kinda fun.

I have four cats. One of them is quite content to be indoors at all times. An open window is enough for him. If you want your cats to be outside and safe, is there anyway you can build them a cat run? I bought a dog kennel and put it in the backyard with a tarp tied tightly overtop for the rest of them to have some outside time. They have an enclosed runway from the window to the kennel so they can come and go as they please - until dark, then I bring them in and close the window. If you buy them toys, don't give them too many at once. And vary the toy selection. Fake mice and little puff balls (like the balls on those foot socks) are popular for a while with my cats. Chasing a string is always fun too.

my late cat was indoors and she was happy and my current is indoors...and he is happy...as i said a million times here, animals r like babies and young kids...they just want attention...they act up because they r crying for attention and love...lonely, sad and unhappy with something there...all my pets loved me, whether cats or dogs...and i never had problems with them...the only problems i have had with my pets is controlling the fleas on my dogs...but besides that, my pets were all perfect...i call them the perfect kids...i miss the late ones...and the current one is making me laugh by climbing the furniture and appliances as he does his indoor hunting for something...he sleeps all day on my bed, window watches in daytime, and at night goes hyper hunting through the townhouse, checks out something outside in the dark from the window, but continues to rummage through my place like a private detective searching for clues...

You should start by getting a litterbox, and keeping it indoors, meaning, that the cat will center around the inside of your house... but to keep them happy, you should buy a scratching post, and get a laser light. point the light at the floor, and move it around. The cat will have a blast lol.

my cats have always been indoors. i just think it's much safer and less stress and trauma on me ! i read somewhere that you should take a very small saucer and fill it with dry cat food and just place it in the apartment when you leave. it gives them something to hunt for. also, kittens will play with just about anything. they have great creative minds. a scratching post is best introduced to a kitten and then they can learn the right way. i used to "hide" some of the cat toys and put something different out every few days. i also have some catnip that i can spread on the carpet. i found the catnip is more potent if you crush it before you spread it out. i've hung an old robe belt on a door knob and he fights and claws at it.... to fling it around. a crushed ball of aluminum foil. an empty spool of thread. an empty paper bag an empty box with different paw holes or doors cut into it. cats love to have a perch at the window sill so they can talk to the birds and watch other animals outside.
