Should Salvia be an illegal drug and banned?

I think it should be illegal. I think to many of todays teens will find it "fun" which makes it dangerous. This is more powerful than marijuana, more dangerous. I just watched a story on this powerful drug. It is a hallucinogen. Although it does have medicinal purposes (it is used to get off of heroin, though methadone is still considered the better choice), college kids and younger teens use it as a recreational drug. The YouTube wh0res use this stuff and then record themselves while tripping and other kids making fun of them, then put it on Youtube for all the world to see. It is a VERY powerful hallucinogen. I think it is a dangerous drug. You HAVE to have someone with you while you use it to make sure the your hallucinations are not going to cause harm to yourself (sounds like fun huh?) The college kids on the show say they use it "responsibly" They say you can get a spiritual connection with the cosmos (sounds like LSD huh?) They go one to say that the Youtube wh0res give it a bad name while putting themselves up acting stupid because they are "tripping" My friends V.A. Dr gave him a pamphlet on salvia. He has shrapnel in his back that can't be removed, hes been in I don't know how many auto accidents which exaggerate his back problems, so I guess the Dr. though salvia might be a good thing for him. It IS expensive, it can be bought in a head shop in 44 of our 50 states. I think it is a bad idea. I don't want my kids experimenting with this drug. I know kids will be kids, I know they have probably heard of this drug, so far , it seems, they have been smart enough to stay away from drugs .. thank God. I am not a parent in denial however, I am sure there will come a time where they will experiment. They are 17 and 16... the prime age to try stupid cr@p. I just hope they resist temptation, or at least come talk to us first. The FDA has not done any clinical studies on the affects of this drug. It has been linked to suicides of otherwise "non-depressed full of life" people (as one girl on the show said about her friend before he started using it, and committed suicide shortly after smoking it. I can not yet copy and paste here... but if you type "salvia drug" into your search engine, you will get a lot of websites with a plethora of info where you can make your own decision.

If they do make it illegal ,they will eventually have to make sage illegal also because salvia is derived from the sage plant,i remember my grandmother used to make us sage tea when we could'nt sleep or were acting up when we were little kids ,and after drinking some of that sage tea we would go right to sleep, there are so many herbs that we use in our everyday cooking that if smoked or made into a type of tea you would get high, but that salvia sounds like some bad stuff, maybe they should make it illegal...

There will always be someone to look at a plant and think ... hmmmmmmmm wonder how this will make me feel if I smoke it? LOL I guess any herb or spice can have any type of effect on you. I think though, that if a pattern of abuse starts to surface, especially on Youtube, it should be looked into and acted upon

i think that it should only be used by responsible adults that have a reason for using it, as that it is one of the most strongest hallucinogens known to man, but im not sure on whether or not i would want it banned. if it was illegal it would stop a lot of idiot teenagers trying to get high from using it, but it would make the more responsible people who are trying to use it in a safe manner not able to get it as easy. this plant is non-toxic and not very bad for the body, and it isn't addictive either, but the effects are startling. people need to use it properly and responsibly.

It does have high medicinal value. For this reason, I have changed my mind and now believe regulation is the way to go.. It just startled me to see the effects it was having on the people who were abusing it.

What is interesting is that there are many different types of Salvia and only one or two are used for this reason... The majority of the other varieties are used for landscaping as they are lures for butterflies and are beautiful. It seems to me that kids have a tendency to try to find things to get high on. It is a pity that they found that they could get high on this. I would hope that they would not pull all Salvia on the shelves and that they would instead make the sale of the one that his been said to be toxic in this way to the nervious system something that is not done to anyone under the age of 18... similar to what they do with spray paint and notify all who purchase it of its dangers... That way those who want to plant it for its beauty can do so.

I guess the warning labels and such might be a deterrent, but in the head shops.. who knows It is a beautiful plant. It's a shame it get a bad rap like many others
