I know a lot of people suffer from Depression, and its good to see that nowadays it is actually classified as something serious. Years ago, how many people went about down in the dumps and not knowing why. What are the actually clinical signs of depression? Is there an early age when it can be spotted, what can be done to prevent it. Is it people who don;t have a goal, or is it people who are overwhelmed?

Well, sometimes its unavoidable that we feel depressed for the day..but for the health its not a good side, i believe in Meditation which will balance our mind and helps to be normal at situations.

Its hard to know how young a child can be to be truly depressed. I think I had it my whole life, I was an extremely cranky baby and a sad child and now.. well, I have it! Most definitely and the sad thing is people still don't take it seriously.. they think its something that you should just "get over". There were periods in my life when it was much less but when more stress occurred, my depression would get worse. I have tried antidepressants and couldn't stay on any of them due to side effects. I think in order for you to be clinically depressed, you have to show symptoms of more than 6 months straight. But could be wrong on that.

There are plenty of authentic sites on Depression. trusted one being http://apa.org. For blog go to http://sripedia.blogspot.com and read something interesting. Though diagonalized as depressed, if a person carries on with his normal life, its O.K., if not, it is the case with any major disease. We abstain from work for sometime under medication and join back the mainstream with renewed strength.

Hi Goatlady, I suffer from depression, and the symptoms are: Feeling hopelessness, helplessness, chronic fatigue, sad, irritable, agitated, crying spells for no reason other than having the depression, losing all drive and motivation and interest and pleasure in the things I use to do. Feeling like every move I make is a very big chore, thinking in my head it would be easier if I could die, It is hard for me to even do my housework, and believe it or not I use to somewhat enjoy doing housework. It is very hard to go to work and put on an act like everything is okay when really it is not. I feel like I am faking my way through life. Those are some of the symptoms. But remember this has nothing to do with anything bad going on in my life, I have a wonderful husband and no worries, depression is seperate from that. It comes upon you and I feel like it has me surrounded and I can't break through, if I do start feeling a little better it only last for a few minutes then I feel like the door has been slammed shut again. I have had some bad things happen to me in the past growing up, do to bad choices that I made, I don't feel like it is that that has caused this depression but then again it could be. I am 42 years old and all this started when I turned 40, I had my hormones checked but they were normal, I take zoloft for my depression which helps alot but I think I need to go see my doctor cause I am still crying every night and I am so tired of crying. People will say they are depressed because of something that may be going on in thier life, but once thier problem is fixed they are okay, people with true depression are depressed when everything in thier life is fine and if something bad happens it only adds to the depression. You see it is two different things I am talking about, that is why people that don't have true depression cannot understand what it feels like, am I making any sense? Sorry this is so long but it helps me to talk about it, I believe I am going to go talk to a therapist next week, maybe that will help. Well sorry for the long post but that is what depression is all about, hope this helped you to understand better.
