State Department send their diplomats overseas as a part of USA foreign policy. In the name of bilateral relationship, American diplomat is playing important roles to forge a strong relationship with host countries. They do some social-contacts, invite local prominent figures to have lunch-on party,or welcome functions. They are talking about something that both countries have many thing in commons. Although there are differences between the two countries, but the principle of mutual-understanding and mutual-respect make those differences could be put aside.Althouh they speak English, and come from English-spoken country, nevertheless, some of american diplomats can speak local languages fluenty. This make the process of mutual-understanding could be achieved easier. There was a time when no single American diplomat who can speak local languages. In this regards, I think Washington DC has followed Japan that send her diplomats abroad, they are obliged to study or to learn local dialects.

I'm sure it all sounds good in theory. But if US delegates were coming to my country I'd be very concerned over what their interest was. I try to stay out of politics because there is alot of bad blood there.

It seems you are from conflicted-area country. If so, I can understand your point. Politics, to you, I suppose is a dirty-game which take most victims of innocent people.Politics -- again to your understanding -- I suppose is harmful-tool against others. That ls way you always see bad blood that nobody knows how to stop it. But nevertheless, from my perspective, politics is a responsible way to win friends; and sometimes we use politics to learn how to live peacefully with our own enemies. In this regards, political-solution is still become the main choice to stop conflict, to end the war.

That is true you don't have a choice but politics. They can be good and they should be good for all involved but does not always work out that way. There is always a hidden agenda. Where everything should be on the table. Honesty is not always the policy. All involved have to be motivated or there wouldn't be such interaction. Some countries have a history of having two faces when it comes to honoring agrements. That's an awarness that all parties involved have to keep into consideration. Its a safeguard from experiencing bad relations.

hidden agenda? What kind of bad creature is this? Sometimes we get informed that diplomats have hard talks, sometimes they cant yet to conclude the result; or, they feel sorry with that outspoken-talks because there are many differences that should be addressed well.It is common thing when they say, they will continue that talks later...so I think there is no hidden agendas...all are frankly speaking....
