do you have any investments? What types of things do you invest your money into? like shares, properties, a home business, high interest saving accounts, term deposits, etc. and how well has it this worked for you? I have recently got some money that i am looking to invest in something secure, i would like to spread my money ou tevenly into a few options to ensure money in the future. I would love to hear of any ideas and returns you've made.

Last year, I transfered a 401K I had from an old job into a Roth IRA. This works great for me since it has a higher interest rate. I learned of something called "The Rule Of 72," which estimates how often your investment will double in value (if you leave the money in the account, of course.) Take the number 72 and divide it by the annual percentage rate (APR) on the account. For instance, if your savings account has a 3% APR, the money will double every 24 years (72 divided by 3 = 24.) Roth IRAs generally average a 12% APR, which means it doubles every 6 years.

Before you decide what to invest in, you should decide when you will want the money. For retirement and my children's education, I invest in Mutual funds as they have a little bit of everything in them. Ideally, I would love to have enough to start investing in more property. But that's not like an mutual fund, you need a large amount of money to get going in that.

Yes you need more money to invest in property, but not much more, it's very easy to get a home loan if you have a large deposit then the payments are reduced or the length of the loan, i think it is much easier than people think. Getting that nice deposit is the hard bit.

Whoops, I should have been more clear. I would like a few properties. I currently own a home, but would love to be able to invest more into real estate. I think our next adventure will be purchasing a duplex and renting half of it out. But you are right, mortgages are scary to some people.... they shouldn't be. But coming up with the down payment was a headache!
