lots of people eat chicken, pork, mutton, beef and the government will not question you about eating it. But if you kill the dog and more so if you eat their meat the government will put you in jail. Why? Is it fair? That you can eat chicken, beef and pork.

People in the United States and much of the westernized world have spoken up and their governments and food regulation agencies have listened to them. Thank goodness. Dogs are companion animals, and they really have only been considered food in the east. Eating a dog is considered extreme animal cruelty here, not to mention the charges you will face for probably stealing someone's pet.

In America I can think of 2 reasons... 1)No one wants to see Rover or Fido cut up into little pieces and sold for $2.99/pound 2)If they did start selling it, the FDA would have to have control over it. Meaning Dog Farms set up to monitor the kind of food and treatment they were getting, and testing of the finished product, to assure it was safe for human consumption. I have never tried Dog meat, and hope never to have to. I know they have Fallow Deer farms set up now so you can get venison year round. I just cant see Dog meat farms happening in this country anyway.

I agree with the other two posters. Dogs are considered our "friends" and people think that it's crazy if you eat them here. However, in other countries, it is absolutely acceptable to eat dogs and other animals most Americans wouldn't dream of eating. Pigeons, for example, are eaten in many other countries. Americans don't realize just how good we have it. We have the OPTION to eat animals other than dogs and cats. We even have the option to be vegetarians if we want to. In other countries, they eat what is available.

That`s is my question too Markgadiano why the government banned the dog meat that`s also a meat. Even we have dogs we eat dog meat because, do you know the story of other places that when they a corpse (People corpse) they will eat it because they believe that if they didn't eat that the worms will eat that corpse.

Thank God for that. For many people a dog is a member of family. You can eat a member of your family?

here in our place, eating dog meat is not prohibited. but killing dogs and making money from it is prohibited. when i was still young, i tried eating dog meat. actually it is also like pork. but it has a smell that will differ it from pork or chicken.

Well for me that is just unacceptable, I could never eat a dog. But I don't know if I lived in a country were food is scarce and that is what people in my culture did then I am sure I would be eating dog. Guess I am glad I live here and not there. I also have to wonder how many deaths there in those countries related to the worms from dogs ect.. ewww
