I just heard one of those "Congratulations! You have been selected to recieve a free computer", etc. ads. UGH! They are so annoying! I've never responded to them but I'm sure they're scams, aren't they?

Not responding is better. They have software to send the same messages to thousands of randomly-generated email addresses. By responding you just tell them your email address is real. Then they just collect the info and pass to other people. Using a spam filter can reduce some spams.

I always get them, the ones I get I have to complete millions of offers to get them, and I have to sign for things that I just do not want. So now I just trash them all! It is so annoying because you never just win anything, there are always a million catches.

I think the way most of them work is that you have to fill out a bunch of paid offers, then refer your friends to do the same. If you don't mind losing all your friends or selling them garbage, you might just get what you want, but I think it's a waste of time entirely.
