What Do You Know About Scientology?

I am curious to learn about this religion. I tried to look up information on Wikipedia, but they said that the article needed a lot of work. I know that it was founded by L. Ron Hubbard. One time when I was a teenager, I stumbled into the place that they have on Hollywood Blvd., just to see what it was all about. I took a test and then they were trying to get me to buy some kind of books. I do not remember exactly what they said to me, but it scared me and made me feel very uneasy. I kind of felt like I was being held against my will by the things that they were saying. I ran out and I had totally blocked that experience out. Then my friend and I were discussing it today and she told me to look it up. It was not until I saw the name L. Ron Hubbard, that I remembered that incident. So tell me what you know about this religion.

You were right to avoid them Rozie. I'd recommend looking up Xenutv.com, www.h-m-r.blogspot.com or look up "Scientology Controversies" on wikipedia. Firstly, it is a con masquerading as a religion. It draws in members through dianetics, a fraudulent means of therapy which induces a euphoric and pliable state of mind. To advance through the ranks you are forced to buy more of these sessions, costing thousands of dollars as you go. When you're a member, you're forbidden from reading many books, viewing a lot of websites and from socialising with people that are openly against Scientology. Members are forced to abandon families, friends, loved ones...or get them to join. Also, the group is vicious in their tactics for dealing with non-believers, people they call "Suppressive Persons." In dealing with them their doctrine allows them to slander them with lies, physically harm them, harass them with threats and break their property. Their own doctrine says that. The organisation has been caught breaking on to government offices and they've got many human rights violations under their belt. The worst part is, a lot of the people in it (mostly in the lower to mid-levels where the enforcement and indoctrination happens) are nice people so they're just as much victims as the people they're hurting...but that's the nature of brainwashing, I suppose. Xenutv.com is a good source of information on Scientology, check xenutv on youtube too. Hope this helps ^_^

What you have described sounds extremely frightening. I feel sorry for those who become mixed up in such a mess. I am glad the Lord protected me from this obvious cult. Thank you for your response.

I don't really know much about it other than they try to use science to explain the things that happen. that might not even be right, lol. You should go to beliefnet.com - they have a lot of info on it as well as many other religions!

I really dont know much about it myself other than the fact that back in the 80s in toronto they were trying to recruit ppl on Younge Street which I thought was funny as all hell...I also know its an "unusual" way and a money hungry one as well.... You can read about it here though http://www.religioustolerance.org/scientol.htm

I read a little about Lisa Mcpherson last night. It was a real shame that they were allowed to take this woman from the hospital and neglect and ultimately cause her to die. I will follow this link and read more, thank you.

Dear Rozie, Scientology follows a long tradition of religious practice. Its roots lie in the deepest beliefs and aspirations of all religions and thus encompassing a religious heritage as old and as varied as the man himself, says in this site. See in this site all the queries you might have about this are cleared. www.scientology.org/ I hope this helps you. there is another site www.xenu.net Please read the faq in this site. You can see both versions for and against in these two sites. It should help you to decide. All the best
