Chiggers eating my crotch?

So yesterday I thought I had six spider bites. I had 3 in the "underwear area," two on my back, and a HUGE one on my theigh. They are bumpy, purplish-red and itchy. The largest is the size of a quarter, the smallest a couple millimeters. After talking with my mom about them, she's convinced I've been eaten by chiggers. For those of you who aren't familiar with chiggers, I believe they're only in Texas or the southern US. They live in the grass, and implant themselves in your skin and "eat." Pretty disgusting really. Mom is convinced they're chiggers because she can't imagine that a spider would bite inside my undies. The only thing is that the bites don't look like any of the chigger bites I saw online. Does anyone have any experience with chigger bites? Does this sound like a chigger? Or perhaps a small spider? UGH - insect bites SUCK!
