i dont know how to use themes and from where i can get it ?

yeah friends i dont know how people changes their theme , like i mean to say if they are having windows xp installed then they change their looks to either vista sort of or linux or mac sort of system. i always wonder how to do that , if you can tell me step by step to do that or any links that may teach , i will be thankful to you.
