now my plans are on hold and i don't know for how long. Why does having children make your freedom non-existent? Unless of course you are very wealthy, then you have as much freedom to travel as you wish

When you are single and without children I think that there are the best times for long trips like say a year going around the world or a three month overland journey in Africa. However after having children it is still possible to travel but do less exciting trips I think. The more children a person has the more expensive traveling will become. Infants under the age of 2 travel for very little or free and the child fare is payable for children from 2 to 11 years old usually. Children can often stay in a double room on a camp bed in their parents room for free or little cost. Activities have to be planned for children according to their age. I think 5 years old is an ideal time for your child to travel and learn about the world. You do not have to be very wealthy just plan ahead for flights and look at travel books to find the best budget accommodation. Good luck with traveling as a family.
