Why are so many people turning to violence?

Does anybody know why so many people are turning to violence? Is it in their nature? Do they not have enough patience? What can we do to prevent more violence? IS domestic violence being ignored more than street violence? I have seen too many people black and blue in my lifetime! I really want to help prevent more violence. How can we do that? What steps can we take to ensure that our loved ones do not become yet another statistic? What is being done in your state or country to control and reduce violence? Please do tell!

Violence is an ingrained part of the human nature and is seen as a legitimate means to justify an end. Even in this day where we have more laws to punish violent acts, the urge is as strong as ever. Most of the borders in the world have been formed thru wars and I don't expect things to change in this unstable world. This mindset has leeched into our day to day business and our punishment for violent acts lands us in the most violent places in the world. Maybe, one soul at a time, we can make violence a rarely occurring anomaly...but I'll never live to see it.

So you are saying that violence is nothing new, it may be that we have less violence than ever, but it is still ingrained in our brains, like instincts?

Then you think violence in humans is influenced by their beliefs? I think that is what you are getting at! I just meant people in every day situations, not like war between countries but fighting among neighbors, family and friends! That kind of violence, the personal kind!

Well...Cain supposedly killed Abel...and that was quite a few years ago. God, himself, was a very violent soul according to the Old Testament. While the New Testament stresses redemption and forgiveness, the Old Law teaches that retribution thru deadly violence is God-like. This could have had a strong effect on the subsequent generations since the publication of the Old Testament, Koran, etc. I'm not religious...this is just a thought.

Just think about the fact that relatively ALL the worlds territorial borders have been established thru war and tons of bloodletting. That's one hell of a legacy.

There's a lot of reasons a person turn into violence. I believe that when a person is born, he is naturally good. We can hardly see any violence from a baby. It's the influential of the parents or siblings that turn them into violence. Family who always have argument or fight may lead to the unhealthy growth of a child. He will resolved to think that only violence is the solution out of a problem. Besides friends also influence a person character. If he always hang out with the wrong guys, he will eventually become like them. Do all the stuff that they do such as fighting. Parents can help to advice thier own kids if they find out that they always hang out with 'gangster'. It's important that parents pay full attention to the growth of their children. They need to give advice to their own kids if there's sth wrong. If parents cannot take full responsibility of their kids, why in the first place do they have kids?? They cannot just give birth to their kids and ignore them for the rest of their life. Early stage of growth of a kid will determine what kind of person he or she will turn into.

I agree that it is often learned from family members, but it is also society that teaches violence and consequences to our children! maybe if anger management was taught in the schools from the earliest age, violence would not be so prevalent as it is today! I also think it stems from feelings of helplessness and unimportance! If someone feels helpless and unimportant, then he may think that it does not matter what he does or does not do, that he cannot affect his own environment!

it might be the circumtance and the stress that makes people to turn violent, because people of present days lack the art to control their mind.

I agree with that! We do live in a society that invites us to want instant gratification! So maybe that has something to do with it!
