The G8 Group is an unofficial forum of the heads of the leading industrialized democracies (Russia, the U.S., Britain, France, Japan, Germany, Canada and Italy), where the European Commission is also represented and fully participates. This forum was designed to harmonize attitudes to acute international problems. Originally, the G7, Russia was invited to join the summit meeting in 1997. This year's summit is being held in St. Petersburg on July 15-17. Not invited to this summit are India and China, which together represent one third of the world's population. India is the world's largest democracy and China is the world's most populous nation and has the world's fourth largest economy. Is it time to turn the g8 into the g10?
