We have the nicest sweetest cat you've ever seen. Yesterday he came home limping so my wife stayed home to take him to the vet. Turns out someone had SHOT him... WTF? Who the hell shoots a sweet lovable cat? His shoulder is completely destroyed & we're having to pay $600 to have it amputated. I might could understand if he was mean or something but this guy is the biggest teddy bear ever. I'm just shocked & so wish I knew who did it....

Oh I'm so sorry. The poor little guy. I really hope you find out who did this. They should be shot for doing that. How can anyone do such a thing to such an innocent being? I'll keep your kitty in my thoughts. I know how wonderful cats are and how much they are a part of our lives.

If you find them give them a good kick from me as well. Reading your post all I wanted to do was cry I know how upset I would be if it had been one of my cats. Give the kitty a hug and let him know that others are thinking good thoughts about him.

omg!!! that is terrible! i can't believe someone would just SHOOT a cat!!! Had to have been a very messed up, very sick individual!! I'm sorry this happened to you! I know how it feels to have to pay that much in vet bills. I had to pay $630 for one month of vet bills for my cat! But they're worth it...right? :)

Had it been any other cat ( we've had others & still have another outdoor cat ) I would have just told the vet to put it down. I'm not a real cat lover but Boots is just the biggest teddy bear ever. No other cat would allow my daughter to pack him around the way she does. This is just ...ARRGGGG....

I'm sorry your allergic, but you do know the cat will have to be kept inside while he recovers. Perhaps he can stay in your daughter's room or the laundry room. I'll call out my SCA friends and we can have a quest to find the cat abuser.

That is really too bad about your cat. Some people are just weird and don't care about the cat. They just don't want the animal around where they live.My neighbor used to shoot cats before I moved here. About five cats moved in with me and when I had one of them spayed, they found a BB in her belly area. The vets took it out but still I know who shot her. I told him he had better not shoot my cats. And so far, he hasn't. I hope you can figure out who shot the poor cat. And hope the cat gets better soon.

A BB would be far nicer than the buckshot mine got. It COMPLETELY destroyed his arm... He's going to be a tripod now.

That's insane. That's wonderful to hear he survived it though. Make sure you inform the police. Now that you know a crazy person is in your neighborhood, I would suggest keeping the cat indoors.

that's really awful... i hope that you can find out who did it and report the person to the police... shooting an innocent animal for no reason at all... that's insane... the person should be punished by law...

Unfortunately a shotgun used on a cat doesn't leave much evidence or witnesses. The law won't do squat.

I can't believe that anyone would be so cruel...I got to hope that it was an accident and not deliberate. I hope your kitty will be ok and if I were you, I'd make him a housecat. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

It was deliberate. I was mistaken that it was a shotgun. The vet told us it was a 22. If the bullet hadn't hit his femer & both the bullet & bone splintered it would have killed him. They were going for a heart shot. SOMEONE WAS HUNTING MY CAT!!!!!! He's recovering suprisingly well. I'm still in the mood for a feud myself. They hurt a member of my FAMILY....

You definitely need to file a police report. Animal cruelty is prosecuted more avidly than child abuse in some places. This kind of thing is one of many reasons we only have indoor pets. My daughter and I are allergic, too, but we've found that bathing the cat weekly, brushing him regularly, and vacuuming the furniture weekly make it possible for us to live with cats without a problem. Pet stores also sell a spray you can use instead of or in addition to bathing the cat, which denatures the protein that causes allergies.

I do hope he recovers well. Do talk to your neighbors, to warn them to keep their pets inside. If someone confesses or seems particularly hostile, let the police know that, too. Good luck!

Grrr! How freakin' nasty can you get! That breaks some basic rules that all humans should follow! Y'know the ones regarding not messing with a person's family or animals. I read through some of the responses to this discussion and I'm VERY glad to know that he'll pull through. Tripod cats usually adapt very well. Since you're allergic, you may wish to consider tying him up in the yard to keep him safer. We keep 2 of our cats tied up so they don't come to any harm. I don't know how a harness would work for a 3 legged cat.though. Hmmm...from your avatar, I'm guessing maybe S.C.A.? I'm also presuming you cando a lot more than just hold that axe. I hope you do find the cur that did that to your furry family member. Maybe remove a limb or extremity of his and see how he deals with it. No one has a right to do that! I wouldn't mind a piece of that individual myself! All I need to do is get my husband to sharpen up a sword for me...or...the torture could just begin with whatever's at hand.

Tying him would be even more dangerous. I live in the middle of 18 acres of woods & that would be like a drive through dinner. With him being unable to run or defend himself something would make a meal of him. I've never actually been in the SCA, but we travel in the same circles. i used to be a armed combat instructor so, yea the axe isn't just for show. I'll include you in the "Forget the wallet...What's in your skull" team,

Excellent! I'll see if I can borrow our friend's Kevlar, too and hope it'll fit. If not, I'm know enough people with arsenals that I'm sure I could come up with something workable. hehehe I read through the entire discussion and I really do want to know what's in that "person's" skull! Hunting a cat? What! You only hunt it if you're going to eat it and only in season and with permission! Sheesh!AND ya don't hunt family members! OK, must calm down before I start scaring the neighbours. I live in a city, so tying the cats is our best option to keep the less streetwise ones out of trouble. Once Boots heals up, I'm sure he'll be fine. Cats have good memories, so he'll likely remember a scent or a sound be it a vehicle, person or whatever. No one will likely get in range of him again. Funny, I had a cat maned Boots growing up, too. He also was a great guy! I agree that law enforcement is useless when it comes to matters like this. More and more people regard animals as family members instead of property, so hopefully the laws will catch up soon. I'm glad to read that he's doing well. Our furry brethren are remarkable both in their capacity to heal and to endure. BIG HUGS from Canada to you and yours! Love the hounds, BTW.

We have 5 dogs, 1 cat, and a dove. 4 of the dogs, the cat, and the dove were all either abused or abandoned. I have no use for an animal abuser, but, an outside cat has an average lifespan of 7 years as opposed to 16 for an indoor cat. I do understand your allergy situation but if you are not physically able to keep your pets safe from the outside world I believe you need to do some self examination as to why you would put your own pet in harms way. As I stated, we have a menagerie of pets, and my wife and I both have allergies, but we keep our pets on their property, out of harms way. I'm truly sorry for your cats ordeal, and I hope you catch who shot him.

We keep our cat indoors except when he wants out. At that time we put his harness and a leash on him and walk with him. The dogs are kept in a fenced yard when they aren't inside the house.

How do you keep something out of the way of a lunatic with a shotgun except by keeping it locked up itself. Do you keep your family locked up?

sorry to hear about your cat, who has now been rendered "incomplete" coz of the b*ast*rd that shot him. i hope he is dong fine now despite the fact that he now has an amputated shoulder. maybe you can hire a psychic to track down the guy, ive heard of psychics being able to locate missing people.

I'm so sorry for the pain your poor cat has to go through, and for your expense and mental anguish. Fortunately, animals adapt easily to living with an amputation, whether from injury or disease. I live in an area full of creepy people who shoot animals for fun. We have an animal sanctuary to rescue abused and abandoned animals and keep ALL our furbabies in fenced areas and the cats in indoor/outdoor screened areas. We lost two of our dogs when they slipped out a gate left open by accident. They weren't gone 5 minutes when we heard a shotgun go off twice. My husband had a heart attack while burying them (he survived after open-heart surgery) and the police would do nothing to the creep who shot the dogs - even though it's illegal to discharge a shotgun within town limits. The only protection your animals have is that which you provide. All of our cats are now indoor-only. Nationwide statistics show the AVERAGE lifespan of an outdoor cat is less than 18 months. Average for indoor-outdoor cats is

Actually, Uath, I belong to several nationwide rescue organizations. The problems are everywhere. I'm just more aware of what's going on around my area (and the nation) because of our sanctuary and our rescues. Too many times people think their cat or dog "ran away" when they were "taken away".

No, no enemies ( they wouldn't survive long ). The neighbors are also animal lovers. I expect it was one of the local teenagers. There are several living in the area that are in that rotten vandal stage right now.
