I think the most important things for maintaining a relationship of any kind are affection and understanding. Everyone wants to be loved and understood. What I was always told ws my best quality as a friend is my ability to accept without judgement and offer understanding about ANYTHING my friends confide in me.

oh yes i so completely agree with you. to start with without trust there is absolutely nothing in a realtionship. then ofcourse you should have blind faith in your partner. someone to really are and respect your believes and sentiments.

Yes, you are right but in addition to what you've just said, communication is one of the best way to maintain a good relationship. For me, it is very important to be in touch with your BF/GF no matter how far he/she is, I don't see any reason to not be in touch with your hubby since there are lots of ways to communicate with one another.
