are white pearls unlucky

hi,my mother has got the most beautiful white pearl set of jewellery which her mother gave her.for some reason i always feel they are unlucky why so. to me a while pearl looks life a tear drop.. we were going out one day to the races and i saw my mom wearing the pearl earings, i actually forced her to take them off as i found them unlucky. any advise on the same
