I had to look it up on the internet and gas was around $1.21 a gallon when I started driving. But I remember it going back down under .80 at one time. How about you? What is the lowest price you remember paying for gas?

I remember my mom having to only pay 76 cents for gas and then the price hiked to 97 cents and it was outrageous! When I started driving I think that gas got up to about the 1.20 range on average.

Funny how .20 cents seemed like a big deal at the time. Now we'd all be glad to go back to $1.20 range. I hope some of these alternatives take off and start to build some real competition for the oil companies. A friend of mine is going to convert his truck to run on vegetable oil.

I remember it being aroung $1.10 when I started driving. Back then, I would have never imagined it could be as high as it is now. Nothing surprises me now; if gas reaches $5 a gallon I wouldn't be surprised.

I agree. I wouldn't be surprised to see $5.00 a gallon either. I hear a lot of predictions that it will hit $4.00 a gallon next summer for sure. I can't believe how much it takes to fill a tank these days.

I think the lowest I ever remember paying myself was around $0.67 but for the most part I remember it being in the $0.80 when I was in college. I do remember when I was a child prices going up over a dollar in the 1970's and the big crunch then. I remember my parents complaining about it especially at vacation time. Still I would love to see it come down.

I remember my father driving away from gas stations when gas was .25 a gallon and I remember standing in line for gas on an even day..because the next day gas would be over $.50 a gallon. My son who is only 22 has seen gas at under a $1 a gallon and I think he may have been a teenager then..so it was not so long ago.

I forgot all about the even and odd days for buying gas until you mentioned it. Wasn't it based on whether the number on your license plate was even or odd? I'm going to have to ask my parents. Gas prices have jumped up considerably just since I first posted this discussion.

Five years ago, when I got married, the price was around $1.50, then suddenly started dropping and got to around $1. When I started driving, it was probably about 80 cents a gallon. Those were the days. What I wouldn't give to be able to fill my tank for $15 again.

Since I've been driving, the lowest price I've ever paid was about $1.00 a gallon. Luckily, it was during a time when I had a 70 mile commute. I mostly grew up during the gas crisis in the 1970s and I remember gas prices being about 45 cents to 65 cents a gallon, which was very high for back then. I also remember waiting in line with my mom to get gas at the gas stations, too.

Believe it or not I can remember when gas was 10 cents a gallon. No I'm not as old as dirt but I sometimes feel like it. When I was very young my father owned a "service" station and there were what they called "gas wars" and gas went down to 10 cents a gallon during that time. Gas was plentiful back then...as was most everything. BTW a "service station" was where an employee of the station pumped the gas, washed your windshield, checked all fluids for your vehicle as well as check the air in your tires while you sat in your car. You never had to exit the car. This was all done even if you only purchased 10 cents of gas, which many people did. All this service at no charge, can you imagine that? Boy, have times changed! Yeah, those were "the good old days".

Yes, beaniecat. I remember when I was little I remember the gas pricings being ninety-nine cents per gallon. I remember the adults complaining that was a lot of money, hehehe! Well, my parents remember when gas costed around forty cents per gallon when they started driving. The last time we got gas it cost three and forty cents per gallon. It's not that we don't like paying for the gas, it's that it doesn't help the environment at all, plus there are technologies out there so we can make cars that don't relay on gasoline, so why are we even using gas?!
