What is more powerful the heart or mind?

I think, the heart is more powerful than our mind. Why? It's just because without the heart we can't feel any emotion.Yes, it is true that we always think or use our mind. But, when talking about love most of the people become fools. If we just only have a brain were like just a robot. Our brain can compare to the memory of a machine or robots. But our heart give us freewill and to feel the things that we cannot think. And always remember that "what we love to do, that we do well". Well, how about your opinion?

While there are romantic quotes and stories telling us that the heart has power over the mind, this may not actually be the case. Think about it, no one ever really does anything without using the mind. But before that, let me define what is "heart" and what is "mind". [for me] The heart consists of emotions, of impulses and desires The mind consists of reason, deliberation, and discernment. Using the above definition, I think I am justified in believing the mind is more powerful and following the mind, or simply reason, is better than following the heart. And besides, anything that comes from the heart actually has to be processed by the mind first in order to become functional. Of course, one might present an argument based on the fact that we equate sincerity and other virtues to the heart. But I think it's because the heart, the literal meaning of the heart, is an organ that pumps blood in our bodies and keeps us living. In other words, we use the "heart" as a symbol of the things that keeps us alive and allows us to interact with people.

Well, that's your opinion. But, how do you explain people who sacrifice everything just for love? Some people got stupid because of love. And without the heart were all just like a robot.

Let me clarify my points then. I don't think the heart can exist without the mind and the mind can exist without the heart. So it's not possible to overlook the mind when discussing the heart nor the other way around. The existence of the heart and the mind is like the yin-yang concept, they can only exist iff they coexist. However, anything turned out by the heart has to be processed by the mind so I stick to the belief that the mind is more powerful. P.S. Maybe what we should do first in this discussion is to define what the heart is and what the mind is for us. For example, what you might be talking about is logic (mind) versus compassion (heart). In such a definition, then I'd rather follow compassion over logic.

In addition, using my original definition, those people who sacrifice everything because of love cannot deny using reason (mind) to justify their choices. Weighing their options and finally coming up with a decision, is a function of reason. Of course, it's not improbable that what is reasonable for this people may actually be irrational for others.

If you are talking about heart as the feeling center then perhaps you are saying that feelings are more powerful than thoughts. Feelings though are not just confined to the heart, even if it is that non-physical point, that being the middle of our chest that many people cover when someone has hurt us. It's a reflex you may notice some people have. Like defending the walls with the hand! Our stomach, belly, are also points where feelings are quite strong. Unfortunately our heart is often wounded and so decisions made from the heart can be smudged with prior conditions. A bit like saying 'because in the past my experiences have been that I get hurt by your words, so now I am not going to listen to you.' The heart of many people is not pure and so is it wise to listen to it? The brain is an organ, same is the physical heart, but the mind - now that's different. Are you saying the heart is more powerful than the mind? Thoughts are one of the most powerful and dangerous things we humans have. Thoughts are what damages the heart. Though if you are talking about the heart being aligned to integrity, truth, and the truth and integrity not being corrupted by conditioned reactions, then yes listen to the heart, usually it's plugged into a sense of intuition, knowingness of what is right and wrong for you.

Come to think of this, people can lose their memory or have an amnesia, right? And how about stupid people who just made great things? The ability of our mind is limited but our heart can do anything even beyond of the science. How do you explain people who is suppose to be dying and weak but still strong because of their love ones.I have a friend like that and he thanking me because for him he getting strength from me.And having a faith is from our heart, did you know how many impossible things that faith done? Minds forget but our heart always remember.

Our thoughts are what imprints the heart. You cannot separate thoughts and emotions. So it is not really heart you are talking about, it is a spiritual goodness that you have inside you. People call that heart. Generally people don't understand the power of the mind and how it controls everything we do, even what our heart does. The essence of a human being is more spiritual, it is that part that knows what love is. But a heart can be corrupted even though there are good intentions. Sometimes the intention from the heart can be very violent.

Yes heart is more powerful that our our mind. But sometime I don't agree with it if we always follow our heart sometime we do decission that are not right. But if we blend it with our mind we may do the best decission to make. That's why they put our brain higher than our heart to be more useful than our heart. We do not only use our brain alone to decide but we also use our heart in doing it we must use it both not one alone. How you can live to emotion alone if we always feel hurting. Sometimes we need to be practical in many ways.

Yes, that's right. It's just because some people only used their mind that's why they don't really understand those things.People become stronger through their experience and how they will react to every situation. Knowing is just not enough, we should have passion to everything that we do and that's what we called WISDOM.

The perfect example you can give is that heart can be compared to God where as the mind as the money .We are torn between them or elated when they work in tandem . with regards www.chocolatesavy.com

For me,definately my heart! Actually,I used to live accordng to my mind, you know, it told me what I should do or not.and I know it's important to do things obeying the rules. But,one day,I just find myself living without passion, you know, doing things just to flatter others but not myself,so,I decided to quit! And now,I enjoy every second of my life time, since I listen to my heart more often. Anyway, one only have one life time,so let our hearts tell the future!

I support for "Heart over mind". But,actually we first analyze any situation using our brains first of all. Then we take into our emotions {heart} into the account. Based on both the information,we make a decision. Theoritically, may be I can say its 40%mind and 60% our emotions- Heart. Cheers ! Have a nice day.
