Which is the best? Are the Americans funnier and do they have a better sense of humour do they produce better shows and why do they say they dont understand British humour?

American humour is more obvious and 'in your face' whereas English humour is more understated and subtle. Well that's my observation, for what it's worth. Having said that, the modern comedy programs on TV in the UK seem to have reverted to filth, swearing and dirt. It doesn't make me smile at all and leaves me cold. Well it doesn't offend me that much because I don't watch it more than a minute or two before I turn over to watch something else! Alternative Humour they call it - and they are right, my alternative is to switch off! haha

Very well said, Uk tv is not what it used to be.
