Have you been laughed about your accent?

I always correct my Liaoning(province in China)accent when I speak English before my classmates,'cause I don't want them to think I come from a poor place.I've heard that some former grads working in Beijing have been laughted at and bullied by their students('cause of their accent).That's horrible.It's as if we're from a foreign country... Do you face up to that problem?
