Yes we are, and no we should, nope it's most probably not, and yup programmed is one way to put it. In essense I agree with you. The media is such a powerful industry- and more so because it's not just an industry it's part of our lives whether we choose it to be or not. And choosing for it not to bet part of our lives would in itself not only be impossible but would hinder you equally. How would you know about anything outside of your immediate area? Word of mouth starts because of the media... You wouldn't know about things happening around your country - the capital could have blown up! Or around the world... It's almost impossible to think of a world now where media doens't exist because its such an intergrated part of society now - a part of all of our lives. I honestly think that if a media institution had enough reason to say - make us believe there were millions of pink killer robots about to invade us from Holland I reckon they'd manage it - obviously it;d be a bit harder than persuading us to vote for a certain party, or buy a certain product, but they have the resources to do it - and if the incentives were big enough I think they would. Not that I have an answer for any of this except to put up with it lol.

Yes,you have said it right.I just become angry when some stupid news like "A boy of 7 years fell into a pit" and etc. Also,I hate media when they use Breaking News.Official definition of Breaking News is the one which is very important and that can bring everyone to ashtonishment.Todays Breaking News are "A celebrity got kissed in front of all the people","Some team has won the cup" and ect. There is no end to these nonsense.

Well, to some extent yes. I would rather use the term INFLUENCE though. That is why it is really very important that we learn how to determine what messages are real and what are those that are not real. I have read this article about a new study that shows a relationship between fashion magazine reading and certain eating disorders, and television viewing and body dissatisfaction.

We are not supposed to believe everything media tells us. I am not saying they do brainwash, sometime they do but not always. Its better to think for a while before believing media information. Its not that much easy, media has a strong hold on us, whether we realize it or not. Best of Luck!

Hi normaroberts, we are absolutely 100% being programmed to think a certain way. Affluenza by Oliver James covers the psychological need to be affluent as a result of the media. Also here's an address you can copy into your browser for a bit more food for thought: http://hughs-kojak.blogspot.com/2007/07/how-to-catch-wild-pig.html

A lot of persuasion come from that side. Their only goal is to sell things - they create catchy images of those things - they find a good way to deliver that image to you - they aim our subconsciuos (striking messages, surprises, repeating, memorable songs, pictures, features) Logic is no object in a commercial... (I talked mostly about commercials, since they are the perfect example of the media manifestation nowadays) Media promotes a culture of image, this is the main thing that is to notice! ~ ...in my opinion...feel free to express yours! ~

Only if you let them. The news of today is so biased that you can't form an opinion without listening to theirs. No news organization, except for Fox news, even reports what the story is about. I never watch the news, especially NBC, CBS or CNN, if I do, it to see what bull they are feeding the "hungry for more crowd". Most people don't like FOX news or if they watch CNN they don't watch FOX, its a toss up, but I believe you must stay informed on both sides.
