How do you use a Virtual Assistant?

I started looking for a virtual assistant last night and settled on one in India. But I´m new to this and am wondering how other people use their virtual assistant? Do you have any tips or advice for me?

I have had one VA job and they primarily used me to answer their emails, make a phone calls for them and do customer service type things.
