If Music Be The Food Of Love...

Van Morrison - Van Morrison, one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time.

... my meal is varied. I can leave the Jam butty, but I like a Lemon Soul with a Twist of lemon, or a stick of Rock. I like to partake little and often, as opposed to three large meals a day. There's a very wide range of music out there, and different genres satiate different appetites, or moods. I think one's choice in music tells a lot about them. My moods change... I can be in a mystical mood, or I can be in a bouncy mood... it alters from time to time. When I'm in mystical mood, I like to listen to artists like Enya, Van Morrison and Jewel, when I'm in pensive mood, Country & Western or Gregorian, and when I'm in bouncy mood, Madness and Special Brew go a long way toward satiating my appetite. I take my "food" from various places. Sometimes it will be my Launchcast radio station, others my Pagan Radio online, or my uploaded music in my Launchcast Juke Box. So, how often to you partake of your musical food; would it be little and often, regularly.. three to four times a day, or do you prefer it in one big chunk? What are your favourites? Do they change with your mood, as mine do, or which other way do you decide what you're going to listen to? Whilst you're thinking about your response, please listen to this video by Enya, from The Mists of Avalon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIRY_nj3NOw

Yes, me too and Country can be fun to dance to, I think. Some of the fun songs, like Some Beach and Playboys of the South Western World, are great to dance to. Thank you for your contribution my friend, and Brightest Blessings.

Play on my friend. I like eating as well myself and like mostly the basic food in life. As long as it satisfies the hunger pains then it does not matter what mood I'm in

Hmmmmm, methinks you're responding to a double-meaning discussion with a double-meaning comment, my friend. I guess if you really like to eat so much, then it wouldn't matter what mood you were in. I hope your hunger pains are always satisfied! Brightest Blessings, and thank you for your contribution, my dear friend. x

I think I interpretated the response correctly as satisfing ones love for music is rewarding in many ways.

Yes, that's one meaning, or satiating one's appetite for life, with music, is another.

[My taste of music varies all the time. If I am home cleaning then I pop in a cd with Pacific Island music and listen to that, and sing along with it too. If I am exercising, I listen to any fast and hard music, and it doesn't have to be one genre either, except, RAP which I can't stand. When I am relaxing then I like soft melodies, or smooth R&B slow jams. I am beginning to enjoy the Enya youtube clips you post too so thanks for sharing those. Her voice and sound really draws me into the song.

We're agreed on one thing here then, my friend... they need to dispense with the *RAP!!! I can't abide that either!!! It appears to me that you like to change your music to suit your mood, as do I. Oh, you should listen to more Enya songs... they're all beautiful, my friend. I have her music all over my poetry site. I don't know how people can concentrate long enough to read the poems! Brightest Blessings, my friend, and thank you for your contribution. xx

I love music!! I have to have music everywhere I go. My iPod goes with me wherever I don't have a radio at my disposal. If I'm in a mystical mood, I enjoy Enya, Enigma or Celtic songs. I have every CD ever made by Enya and Enigma on my iPod. My husband didn't ever think I would be able to fill the 80GBs, but I found a way! If I feel that I need to relax or I need to concentrate on getting some work done, then I will play different soundscape songs. I have my massage mixes which are wonderful for if I have a problem sleeping. When I'm driving, I really like a buffet. I can go with classic southern rock, 80's pop, current day alternative music. Sometimes I need a different taste and will pop in some Nina Simone. The only music that I don't really listen to very much is country and that was because I was sick of hearing about how his wife left him and took his dog and his truck. Thankfully, the quality of country songs has improved and there are some country singers that I will listen to. I'm ever expanding!

Hi there Darkwing, I would love to listen to this video as I like Enya but my computer is playing up and I don't want it to crash on me again! When I was studying I used to listen to Enya, Enigma, Vangelis (1472), Mike Oldfield (Distant Earth), Jean M Jarre - you get my drift. Now when I have people over and need the mood to be gentle, then I put on Dido, Tracy Chapman but if I want to be swinging around the house whilst cleaning then the good old rock comes out - Springsteen, Bon Jovi etc. etc. We listen to the radio a bit too but here in the Dom Rep we are really limited. They normally play the same records over and over and over again. So we switch between the Spanish speaking station that plays western music and another Spanish speaking station that plays salsa etc. We are missing our English speaking radio stations but heh, that's the price we have to pay having moved to the DR.

It's a shame your computer's playing up so that you can't listen to Enya. The film clip is pretty good too. Never mind, it'll still be here when your computer is behaving better. I love Tracy Chapman and Bon Jovi too. Are you not able to download any radio stations onto your browser or Yahoo Messenger? It might give you a bit of variety to do so. Brightest Blessings, my dear friend and thank you for your contribution. xx

Hi Darkwing! I listen to music all the time especially when my hubby is around because he just loves music of different types in different genre. When I am happy, I love to listen to love songs, rock and pop. But in the morning when I wake up, I listen to Christian songs. My music depend on my mood. When I am sad I don't listen to music at all but when I am alright, I listen to just about anything.

I can imagine the Christian songs in the morning, give you a great outlook on the pending day! I rarely listen to music at all, when I first wake up. I look out on the garden and the countryside, which is always busy with birds and animal life, going about their morning rituals. When I'm sad, I'll listen to sadder songs for a while, love songs, country and western with meaning, because it brings out the tears, and then, I'll switch to something lively and happy to cheer myself up again. It's my way of dealing with things... of casting off the negatives and taking on the happy positives afterwards, if you see what I mean. Thank you for your contribution my dear friend. I'm learning more about my friends each day, and it pleases me to get to know you all better. Brightest Blessings for a great day! xx

Like you, it depends upon my mood, but for the most part it's just Country. I'm comfortable letting my kids listen to Country, it's pretty easy to pick up the words, you can actually UNDERSTAND all the words, and I was raised on it. I like some of the punk, pop, metal, and rock, but it depends more on the song than the artist. Very rarely do I listen to R&B, or anything else that "thumps" out of passing cars. I love big band and swing, as well as other music that sounds like it belongs in that era. I have to be in a serious mood for the mystical music. I like it, but I don't listen to it while I'm cleaning house, that's for sure! I liked what I heard of the Enya video, but for some reason it wouldn't play more than a few seconds of it, and yes, it was completely downloaded. I've had the same trouble out of youtube in the past, can't figure it out. One minute the video will play all the way through, the next minute, it won't play at all. Go figure...

I don't think I could listen to mystical music whilst doing the housework, my friend, but I often play it whilst using the computer. It's calming. Also, I agree with you that Country singers do pronounce their words very audibly. You can sing along with them. As for YouTube, does your flash player or media player need updating? I don't have that problem but sometimes, if the computer is doing something else, like changing a window, then it stops momentarily and restarts. Thank you for your contribution, my friend, and Brightest Blessings. x
