What would cause hives every evening around the same time?

About two weeks ago my husband started getting hives around 5 or 6 in the evening. At first he thought it was the new brand of shower soap we had, so he asked me to buy his usual brand. He was getting puffy, itchy bumps all over his body (like big spider bites).
We changed soap but he still gets them. He eats different foods every day, but gets the hives around the same time, regardless. I thought maybe it was something in the house that caused him to have hives when he arrived home from work, but it even happens on the weekend. They show up in the evening.
This evening he got them on his face. All around his mouth and chin it was swollen and puffy. He's been taking Benedryl, which helps, but we're puzzled.
Has anyone out there ever heard of something like this?

Could it be something he is touching then touching his face? What about stress?

My son has a skin condition, that starts with a z (it is about 12 letters long, I always have to look it up). Many people have it and it is like what you describe, sudden hives for no reason. My son hasn't had a break out in a long time, but there was never a cause for his break out. If it bothers syour husband, he should go to the Dr. My sons old pediatrician said that people who have the disease often have to say on allergy medication.

Hi, shizuoka. I am not sure what would cause your husband to break out like that. I suffered from an allergic reaction last month. I took some vitamins and it has Sulfur in it. I am allergic to Sulfur. I broke out in bumps. I thought that they were insect bites. Your husband should consult with a doctor to see why he is breaking out into Hives.
