typical day of a call center agent

Being a call center agent is not easy. There are a lot of adjustments. From timezone to culture to work attitude. First, you follow the timezone of the company you work for. In my case, my watch is set to New York time. Second, you learn their culture. All of a sudden, you need to eat, breath and think like them. You have to learn their language, the street names, landmarks, national holidays, traditions, their way of living, their mood swings, their attitude, their sports, slang talk and expressions and accent. In a nutshell, you need to know what they mean when they say something. and man, it's not easy. and since you sleep when they sleep, you never get to watch local shows anymore. instead u watch cnn, which is another requirement in our job. so my typical day starts two hours before midnight Manila Time.I prepare my lunch, which is just a BLT sandwich, usually, then dress up before a quick shower. No dress codes though. Tops and Jeans with a jacket will do, unless you wanna flirt with someone ;-), you wear something sexy.. lols. it's not required though, because the client wont see you anyway. But a jacket is a must. For some reason, it's freakin' cold in the workplace. I catch the bus to work and in 15 minutes I'm at work. I pass by the vendo machine to get a cup of coffee, then go directly to my station. My lunch is at 3am, then work again till 8am. A little chat with friends while they smoke after work outside for fresh air and a little sunshine, since it's too early to go anywhere, banks, malls are still closed at this time. My friends are used to meeting me for breakfast. Like today, I'm meeting Rose for breakfast in a coffee shop around the corner at 830am. My friends and I do not exchange texts real time anymore. They text me in the afternoon and I reply from midnight onwards. and they understand I'm not being rude. I do my errands at this time, I go to mall to buy food. Or I have my dirty clothes picked up by the laundry boy. I clean my room, read my bible, finish up a book, write on my planner, or go to bank, but I normally do Internet banking, it's easier that way to pay bills and manage finances. If I'm not hungry, I dont eat before I sleep, I just drink lots of water before I go to bed at noon. I set up my timer to 10pm, say my prayers and doze off. 5 times a week my life is pretty much the same. On my Rest days, I meet up with friends, shop, go to church, visit my family, go to my dentist, go to spa and salon, play my sports, eat decent meals and sleep a lot. Holidays are no big deal. I spent my New year's eve working. In this kind of job, you'll learn not to be emotional about spending occassions with family. You must know your priority. It just takes some getting used to. is it fun? is it worth it? well, different folks, different strokes.

yes it's stressful, but it's a good learning experience, right?
