Pauline's Voice

I am watching the pilot episode of Eastenders, and I notice a large difference from Pauline's voice back then and her voice in more recent episodes. It sounds like she started off with the voice she used for Ms. Braums on "Are You Being Served?" lol! I wonder if she decided to make her voice go lower as she got older or if it happened naturally? What do you all think?

I saw a very short interview with her and she said that it naturally dropped over time but that as she got older on the show they wanted her to drop it a little lower to reflect all the things that she has had to endure. I miss this show terribly since BBCA took it off their program list but I have been finding updates and episodes online.
