We waited untill the very last day to do our taxes and the Dept. of Edu took our taxes again this year I am trying to get my student loan dismissed, I had no GED or HSDiploma when I went to that school over 20 years ago, and I had a friend tell me I was not suppose to be elegible for a student loan, and told me what forms to fill out. I filled them out, sent them in and it has been being reviewed since Feb. 5th. They say I won't hear anything until around May 2nd. So we waited to do our taxes. I am not working, so they can't garnish my wages, I was trying for disability, if I get it, I don't know if they will try to grab it as payment. The IRS did our taxes within 9 days of them being e-filed and sent directly to the Department of Education! I want this whole mess over! I just don't see why they wait until the very last minute to let people know anything. This ruined my day Ruined my hubby's day also, he called from work and I told him I sent off the injured spouse form this morning, so hopefully it won't take too long to get his half of the money back from them. I'm tired of waiting and want things to be NORMAL!

Oh poor icy, you have been trying so hard to get things organised. Porr you! Lucky for me I don't have these problems but I can certainly feel for you as I did have things like this hovering over me when I was a mature student. It makes life so difficult, trying to organise yourself around payments or non-payments! We're thinking of you. Thanks for sharing this with us.

I am sorry that they took your taxes. Why is it taking so long to process your form?

I wish I knew. When I called they said it takes 90 days, and you know they have to drag it out until the very last day of the 90 days. I found a link online. I am going to post it. This woman had a similar situation and the department of edu rejected her and her school closed before she graduated. Very sad thing

Not that I know of. I will know around the 2nd of May, 1 more week. If I get denied, I am going to see if I can find a lawyer to deal with it. I am not going to be taken advantage of by them. I didn't deserve to have the loan, I didn't have what I needed to get the loan and I still got it. I was happy at the time, but 20 years later I am sick of it. If I get it denied, I will try to help the woman I posted about get out of her mess. I was told they have to return any payments, and I want it all back, but I just want that loan off my back. So tired of waiting

Oh I feel for you, one reason I haven't filed is because anything I will get back they will take. If you are filing for social security call the Department of Education and let them know you are disabled. They will send you forms for your doctor to fill out to get it dismissed. Now I don't know if they will do it before Social Security approves you or not but it might be worth checking. I wish you luck with this. I know I'm fighting for Social Security as well. The only reason I haven't called to see on this is due to the fact the Department of Education doesn't have my current phone number, so I don't get calls bugging me on it. I don't want to give them that number if I don't have to. Once social security figures out what they are doing and I get approved (in other words when they have made me suffer enough ) then I will be doing the same thing.
