i am a member of a community choir. i was part of a church choir during college. i also sing in our church back in my childhood days. i love to sing! but i have never sang solo in my entire life. i never got the courage to sing in a crowd alone for the fear of humiliation. sing like nobody is listening! what are the things that you haven't done and you really really what to do but couldn't for the fear of rejection, humiliation or failure?

my choir friends went to audition, hence i'm part of the choir i have to go with them. i was so nervous that while auditioning i forgot some of the lyrics. and after singing the piece, a shed a tear... i was really nervous, i want to audition again to save my face, but i know i will not. so i'll just dream on it.

I have belonged to two choirs, but I have been chosen to sing a solo only once. I botched it up so badly, they never gave me another solo. However I do sing in church on my own, no one invites me, I just sing, and I have a good voice. There was a time I was too scared to open my mouth even in my youth group, but one time I plucked up courage and said something in front of the whole congregation. There has been no turning back since then. You can do anything you set your heart to. There can be miracles if you believe.

I used to sing solo all the time and one time I had to sing with our chamber choir which was very cool. I don't really see the audience when I sing. I sing for myself and when I like what I hear then that is good enough. I am a tough audience and I demand only the best from myself. Singing to an audience other than myself is easy.

Why are you afraid to sing solo? You already sing in a choir right? And you love to sing. Just pretend that all your choir friends sing with you when you sing solo. Just believe in yourself. Failure is when you didnot try at all. Just try to sing solo in your friend or family party first. That will give you courage to sing in unknown crowd. I sing infront of crowd all time although my voice is just okay. Just try it once and you will be used to singing in front of crowd without fear.

Thanks. I am on the process of putting thick materials on my face. It will come, pretty soon. I'm kinda thinking about the parable of the talents. What is not used will be taken.

girl...no guts no glory. if you don't try it, you'll never know what will happen. fear wont take you to places. believe me. im a singer myself, and before i become a soloist, it took me a years to make it happen. with a lot of practice, motivation and keeping the dream alive, i succeeded. you know you just have to give it a try. never fear humiliation and failure. every successful person experienced that. you'll be a failure only if you stop trying. just try to sing the song you dream of singing in front of a crowd, listen to the music very carefully and try to sing it alone, then try it with some audiences maybe those who are closest to you, then eventually, a bigger crowd.
