There's been a fuzz about lomo cams around my friends lately. But what is it actually? What benefits can you get from it? How is it different from ordinary cameras?

lomography is fun! its all about not having rules, shooting with your heart and not needing to think about settings, composition & technical stuff! generally, lomo cameras are made out of plastic (even the lens) that gives it a distinguished feel. the beauty of it, is shooting in film! shooting simple stuff, turning it into a colorful & interesting photo

Lomo cameras are often called "novelty cameras". They are fun, creative cameras that can add a little something to your photos. They have fisheye cameras that will distort your images, cameras with multiple lenses, pinhole cameras, cameras that add different colors to your photos, panorama cameras, all kinds of fun stuff. Often the best photos taken with lomo cameras are purely accidental... which is what makes using these cameras so much fun!

Imperfection is an art to all lomographers. In this age of digital control, people are typically seen carrying a digital camera. Perfect shots can always be expected by this type of technology. In some parts of the world, there are these types of photographers who prefer their pictures in film rather than digital. They use lomography to create their own art to show the world that film, has something that digital does not have-unique images with a different effect. Film photography is the old fashioned way of expressing yourself through pictures. Lomography has its own distinctive characteristics in making a statement to the photography world. It is a lo-fi masterpiece photo produced imperfectly but appreciated with much honors especially by lomographers. Lomographer is a photographer who uses a toy camera to produce a unique photograph. Some of the lomo cameras available in the market today are: Diana, Holga, Color Splash, Oktomat, Super Sampler and Pop 9. Unpredictable results are what the lomo cameras give to their bosses. "Every quirk and imperfection" is worth the wait of every lomographers. Lomography asks something that is increasingly undervalued these days: patience. Every picture developed is a unique masterpiece waiting to be seen by the real world. Some characteristics that made the lomo cameras unique are their vignettes(black borders), light leaks and saturated colors. These are the signatures of lomo cams. They are not present in every photo you take; it varies from time to time. If someone has the patience to practice learning how to use such a camera, amazing results become possible.

"imperfection is an art to all lomographers" - not quite. You can see photos using the Lomo concept to be imperfect but to lomographers, they are beatiful. Yes, and no. There are good digital images, and bad ones. On the same aspect, there are good and bad lomographs. And yes, patience is one thing that is celebrated by lomographers...frantically waiting to see if photos turned out good. This is to say whether the blurs were just enough to make an emphasis, or the light leaks were on the right places, or whether the photo captured the uniqueness of the scene. Lomography has evolved from the exclusive use of cameras branded as Lomo's to an attitude that even digital photographers sometimes practice. Spontaneity.

uh yeah that's why I said its an art for the lomographers isn't it? hehe I've also been and still on my starting point of my lomo career but I'm loving the results I have even if many pictures are blank or has nothing in it or even if it is so dark, I just bear in mind that patience is a must in everything and so in lomo. thanks for the comment btw

Lomo cameras are cameras sold by an Austrian company Lomography International. It started with only the Lomo LC-A as its pioneering model. It also added the multi-lensed and other plastic-lensed cameras from china and japan. Now, other russian cameras were added jacking up the prices sky high. Lomo cameras are fun to use until you encounter some of its adopted vintage russian models - the kiev's, FED's, and the Zorki's which were well-built serious cameras. All of them are ordinary film cameras with additional quirks or a colorful history. Not to mention most of them were killer technology during their time. The benefits? you become a member of a prestigious group of individuals using film cameras, shooting life itself, getting together, and enjoying it. I know, I'm one of them.
