How do you find out what your totem animal is?

I've always had a love for animals, but I've always been really attached to cats. My altar right now as small cat figurines all over it. However, it seems that I really have a thing for tigers. I find them to be beautiful creatures and should be respected, cared for and well taken care of, especially since their land is always being destroyed.
I don't know much about totem animals. I've never researched the topic and I've never really looked into why I seem so drawn to tigers or cats in general. I'm not even sure who tigers seem to be associated with.
Do you have a totem? How did you discover it was your totem? Do you have an experiences you would like to share?

LOL--you would think with the love I have for the feline species that my totem animal would be cats, large or small, and yes, I love large "cats" too, such as lions, tigers, panthers. Among the other animals I am drawn to are owls and bears, yet for some reason my totem animal is the wolf. Don't know why...and I have wolf type figurines all over the place, even on top of my computer hutch shelf..if ever for instance I were to get a dog, it would be a husky since they look so wolf like..uh, don't know how my two kitties would react though about that..LOL

I had one animal come to me in a dream. Another is one I am simply drawn to, like you with tigers. I also did a meditation with Medicine Wheel Cards to find personal totems for each of the directions. The book that comes with the cards tells what "medicine" each totem bring to you.
