Rice is a staple food for most Asian countries. But recently, the Philippines has been experiencing rice shortage. While I was on my way to the office this morning, I was listening to an FM radio program. One of the advertisements caught my attention, a group of ladies talking about saving money. The whole point of the advertisement was using a fleet card to get a rebate from gas purchases. In the course of their supposed conversation, one mentioned about a half-cup rice movement to help resolve the rice shortage of the country and save money as well. The presentation was kinda funny but I think it's not a bad idea, the half-cup rice movement. Not only will you be able to contribute in resolving the rice shortage, you also save money and this might also help reduce the emerging obesity problem in the country. What do you think?

hi ash! well in my case, i have always ordered half rice because rice servings here in our city are usually big. if i am with my husband, that is okay, because he gets to each my half portion and so he gets to eat 1 1/2 servings, instead of ordering for another one. i think that is a good way. however, i am not so sure of its implications with other people. i dunno how this movement will affect them. but for me, i am for it, because i cannot really finish an entire serving, unless i am having chicken inasal with it. hehehe good day dear! :-)

Hi spoiled311! Thanks for the quick response. It can be a voluntary movement and not mandatory for all Filipinos especially children because they need a lot of calories. Just think of the savings we can generate if more Filipinos like us only eat half-serving of rice every meal. I'm also pretty sure that there are a lot of Filipinos working on their diet so it's just like hitting many birds in one stone.(=
