Do you decide your baby's name before or after he/she was born?

I don't know whether my baby was a boy or a girl when I was pregnant. I thought out a few female names. But I hadn't thought out a good male name yet. And after my baby was born and he's a boy. At that time I had to consider a good name for my boy.

Hi youless! Unfortunately, I have no children but I have always been an active participant on thinking names for my nieces and nephews before they were born. My brother and partner usually ask for my suggestions and we all list down all the beautiful and unique names we know. Then we narrow it down to three or four through votes; but at the time they were born, my brother and partner will choose one that they really like and they will always give me the honor to chose the second name. And I appreciate that they give importance to me as the aunt of their children. Just my thoughts dear friend! Take care and have a nice day!

It seems that you are good at thinking out good names. And one day your children will be beneficial because they have such a smart mother

We didn't know what we were having so we waited until he was born. I had an inkling that I was having a boy so my husband had a name picked out already. It's unisex so it would of worked out either way.

I had a list of names, usually for my babies before they were born. When my daughter was expected, I did not have a good boy name picked out, I guess it was lucky she was a girl.

When i was like 5 months pregnant... i already know that i will be having a baby girl... but my husband and i cannot agree on a name... so i downloaded like thousands of names with their meaning from the internet... it was only the day when i gave birth to my baby that we agreed to a name that my husband found from the list i downloaded... Since he is inclined to music... we chose the name Callia... which means beautiful name... quite unique...

This is a little weird because I never want to be a parent but I do have names in mind for sons. My favorite male name is David and my second is Jonathan. My third is Matthew. And the next is Arturo.Call me sexist but I would only want boys if I were a parent so I have no girl names.

It is so ironic because I have the names but I don't want to have the children.

Hello youless!:-) The name of our boy was decided 15 months before his birth. That would be around 6 months before he was even conceived. And, it wasn't us who decided the name, he was given his name by our great great great grand mother! :-)

My husband and I decided for our baby's names even before I gave birth to them. We had names for boy or girl. And so when they came out, they have names already.

I decide my kids name after they were born. Traditional Chinese, bring their date and time of birth to someone, (don't know how to name them) ane they will give us a few names to choose.

I think this tradition isn't available any more. Now most of us will decide our child's name by ourselves.

Quite true, and I don't know where my in-laws get those names from. In our family is our in-laws that decide on the baby's name.

Hello youless. I was told by my doctor friend to thought out the baby name before the baby is born because as soon as the baby is born, his/her name is needed to register in some file. I think she's right and I'll take her advice.

I'm expecting my first baby, and I already have my daughter's name picked out. It's such a nice name. I'm still deciding on a middle name. I'm not sure if I should give her one because our last name is a feminine first name. Her name sounds beautiful enough without a middle name. If I chose one, it's got to be a good one.
