Would you do a complete rewrite?

I have written a two-part novel with two main characters. The main character in part one dies. For various reasons, I have decided that she shouldn't die and am rewriting the book. It's a lot of work. Sometimes I get so frustrated that I don't want to even look at the monster. If you wrote an entire novel and decided it wasn't right, would you try to fix it or rewrite it completely?
