I hope I don't get the phone call while I'm on vacation....

We've been dreading this for a while, and thought we were over the worst of it, but it seems it's not so... Of course I may be worrying about nothing, and I hope that's the case. For the last few months, a very dear friend of my husbands family was dieing of cancer. We were very worried that he would pass away while we were on vacation this coming week. He passed away a week ago last Tuesday and the funeral was Monday. My husband was very relieved that it was before we were away and not during. Well, my grandmother has been in and out of the hospital the last couple weeks. About 2 weeks ago they figure she had a heart attack and a stroke - she's going to be 90 in July. My mom is with her now, and for the past week or so she's been in a nursing home, recuperating. Well, my mom just sent out another e-mail that Grandma is back in the hospital. I'me very worried that something will happen while we're on vacation and I wont be able to get home for it. I know there's nothing I can do, but it would be awful if something happened (and I think you all know what I mean by that) and I wasn't able to make it back up here in time. I don't know that my family would be able to put things off until I could get home, but I do have a cousin out of the country and if he wanted to get home I think they'd hold things off for the both of us. Please keep her in your thoughts, we're planning a birthday party for her in July and I would love for her to be there - and coherent - for it.

Thank you very much! We had a great week, and no phone calls. Actually, my grandmother is back home again so all looks well.

We were very fortunate and things are looking up now. Sometimes I really wonder about her, but it looks like she'll be around for her birthday part in a couple months!

Oh I do hope things work out for you, the last thing you need when you are on vacation is bad news, try and think positive and hopefully it will be ok...

I'm sure she'll be fine. I remember a few years ago when she was unconscious for about a month. They wanted someone to sign to have the machines removed. Then one day she just woke up and has been pretty normal ever since. She's a tough old bird - but old is they key word there...

I am very sorry to hear about the passing of your family friend, and also about your grandma's illness. You and your grandma will be in my thoughts and prayers, and I do hope that you're able to have 'that birthday party' this summer. I trust too, that you'll be be able to enjoy your vacation. I know exactly what you mean about being concerned about this type of phone call, whether at home or away. Take care.

Well, it looks like the birthday party will be on!! Not only did we not get a phone call, but my Mom e-mailed everyone while I was gone to let us know that Grandma is back at home, a little week, but all looks good for now. We also talked to the son of our friend that passed, and things look like they're going pretty smoothly for them also. We let them know that we're back and can help out in any way needed.

If your grandmother is like most grandmother's she would want you to go and have a good time and not worry about her. I know she will be in your thoughts while you are gone. I know, you are human and you will worry though just like the rest of us would. Your grandmother and all your family will be in my prayers.

Thank you so much. Yeah, I know everyone would want me to just go have a good time - and I will. She'll always be in the back of my mind though.
