What is your favourite genre? Romance, history or something different?

I like everything sci-fi. Books, movies, DVDs and my thoughts all revolve around sci-fi. I like sci-fi because it's easy to point out the absurdities of our civilization without stepping on anyone's toes. I like to think about theoritical physics, string theory and black holes. Our world is so limited and thinking about unusual things keeps my life in perspective. My little worries and concerns don't matter much in the grand scheme of the Universe. I like other genres, but my heart belongs to sci-fi. Which genre do you like? Is it romance, mystery, history or something else? Why do you like your genre? What is it that moves your soul and stimulates your mind?

My favourite genre would have to be science fiction above all else. This include books, TV, gaming and anime. Science itself is with this. This genre opens up the imagination the most with fantasy as the runner up. While thinking about technologies and possible planetary scenarios is attractive, there are issues of ethics, social balance, and prime technological directives that also stir up interest. Other favourites of mine include mystery, history, horror, drama, and comedy.

We are in complete agreement. Your reasons are exactly why I like sci-fi. I see romance isn't on your list of favourites. I don't like it either. Good to hear from you. Take care.

Romance is okay and comes after the other genres I listed.

I love sci-fi as well. I read books occasionally in this genre but mostly I love tv shows and movies that are sci-fi. I like it because I dream of living in those magical realms or exploring space. I have loved this genre since I was a kid. I also really enjoy thrillers. Not horrors, thrillers. And not who done its either. I like a book that is going to scare me, not make me ill. My favorite writer in this genre is John Saul. His imaginagtion and style are amazing. My favorite all time movie of this type was "the Others" but mostly because I like twisty endings. I love to be shocked or suprised. Of course then I also like books on spirituality and self growth. My favorite book in that style is "The Celestine Prophecy" because James Redfield writes this as an adventure type story but does a fantastic job of connecting to his readers and getting his message out while entertaining you. Good question.

Hi sisterjinx and whitt. I didn't know 'Celestine Prophecy' came out on a DVD. That, I can't imagine since it's a personal mind journey. Okay, so did anyone follow 'Farcsape'? That TV series is my favourite sci-fi of all times. There are so many plot twists and so much character development, you never know what's coming next. Ben Browder does and awesome job adding in comments that aren't in the script, and the others play off of him. This is crazy. I bought all four seasons on DVD, and of course they cancelled the show. I bought the concluding DVD when it came out, but it just makes me want to see more! See how much I love this show? I'm blabbing about it all over the place. Must be something to do with turning fifty-one today. Shhh. don't tell anyone, okay?

Let me give you a word of warning. The movie is really good but it cuts out a lot of the experience. If you like reading or listening to books I very very much advise getting the book or the book on tape. It's a whole different experience.

I also like Sci-Fi because of the weirdness of it and it brings out my curiosity. It makes you think if those things might even be possible. Of course the way I see it, anything is possible because even if it hasn't been proven or no one has seen it, does not mean it doesn't exist. I also like horror, romance, mystery, comedy, and drama. Horror is actually my favorite because I love scary stuff. I don't get scared easily and can watch the scariest movie by myself, late at night with the lights out. It is a thrill! I also like to write Sci-Fi and Horror stories and have written some but haven't tried to get them published yet, but I intend to very soon. :)

Way to go on the publishing! Now, that's something I think about all the time, but I don't really want to do the LULU thing. I know there's many different options out now, but I usually write only very short stories, or true life experiences_ which read like really weird fiction_. I think everything we think of is possible, I just don't know how that works though. I'm still a no-go on the horror, but it's interesting to see how many people do like this genre. No way am I watching anything scary with the lights out. My mind does that all on its own every night! Let us know how the publishing goes. Congrats and good luck.

I do like sci-fi TV and movies. I don't read all that much sci-fi, however - I don't like all the fantasy out there now - I've tried and can't get into it. I watch Battlestar and used to watch Stargate. Any sci-fi movie that comes out, I rent for sure. I read a lot of mystery right now - am currently reading Michael Palmer - medical related mysteries. I like the Dresden files books too. If I could find some really good horror I haven't read, I'd be reading that. Gruesome old me huh? I am like wacky romance novels like Sophie Kinsella. My very favorite movies are always romantic comedies.

hi whitt. I'm reading 'Pharmacology is Murder' and Biotechnology is Murder. Both books are medical realated mysteries. The charcter's are enjoyable, but it's not about the science I like. No way will I watch horror movies. I'll check out the authors you're reading. It's so hard to find good books. Thanks for the input. Enjoy your day.

I read 'Celestine Prophecy' years ago when it first came out. It's interesting. I wonder if you'll like it. Let me know about the Pharamacology books. I'm just getting into the second one, but reading it so close to finishing the first one is not so much fun. I need a different book in between I think. I have several of Dr. Wayne Dyer's, but I read most of his as well. Okay, book talk out. Thanks for hanging out with me. lol

Mine is comedy, I like to be laughing the whole time until my lungs hurt. Though I like documentaries or movies that teach me something and something thats both is a godsend.

Comedy is a great healer. I love laughing until my sides hurt. Count me out for documentaries though. I get enough real life from real life! Thanks for adding your thoughts into our discussion!

Well, when it comes to Reading I prefer True Crime, or Fiction. Or the occassional self help type book, or stories about someones life as well. When it comes to Movies, it has to be either Comedy, some Romance, and True Stories or based or a story. For me, I prefer being able to read about things that really happen, and enjoy watching movies like this as well as this helps enrich my thinking and helps in so many ways.

Well, I always wanted to meet someone who likes True Crime or factual reads. I read sci-fi for the same reasons you like truth based books or shows. It opens my mind and sets my creative thinking free. I'm really happy you stopped by because now when a true-life story or book comes out, I can say, 'oh, I know someone who would like this!'

mine will be romance, drama and comedy... i love these genres and i read and watch most of these books and movies... i don't like sci-fi and anime but my hubby love them... so we have a totally different taste in movies and sometimes have a hard time to decide when we want to watch a movie...

So, how do you find the middle road? One time his genre and the next time yours? Thanks for adding in to our little discussion here. Everyone has a different story and a different way of looking at things. It's a lot of fun talking to people like you!
