We finally used our crock pot

We finally used our crock pot yesterday. My mom found no use with hers and decided to give it to my hubby and I. It's been sitting in the original box since she's given it to us. My hubby made some chilli yesterday and it was oh so good! He browned his hamburger first then added to it. It's a three alarm chilli so it's quite spicey. I have a feeling that we're going to be using our new crock pot as much as we can. Do you have a crock pot? What are you favorite dishes you make with it?

sure,go for it-it's really good. one thing though, use dill seeds instead of dill weed. the seed form puts more flavor in it than the weed does.soaks right out of the shell.mmmmmmmm:)

I use mine all the time. I have a small one for cheese dips and such. I use my large one for meals. My favorite meal in the crock pot is Stew.

Yummy stew! I bet you can just throw everything in there for it and just let it sit and wait for it. I love cheese dips as well and yesterday I was looking at a website that a fellow mylotter left on here and found so many recipes for my crockpot. I plan on making pork chops today so wish me luck! Thanks for your comment

Hi there! Yes I do have a crockpot and use it quite regularly. I find it is ideal as I am away from home all day and it is perfect to let it cook away all day long. Usually I will cook roasts or chili, but ham is great in it as well. :) cheers,

I have a crockpot I use it mostly to cook my roasts for stews. I do cook chilli in it sometimes too and I have even tried one of the banquet slow cooker meals it isn't bad at all. I want to try some of the other ones too.

hello, that's great to know that you are using yours now,i just read an article that it is always best to use crock pot on slow cooking coz it uses little energy and you save money from doing that. anyway, i have one my hubby gave it to me as one of his christmas present last christmas and i have been cooking stew, beef and potatoes, duck and just last week like your husband my hubby uses it for the first time to make his famous chili (how cool is that, what a coincidence haha) i finally have made him use the slow cooker he gave me by telling him that it saves us some money on the electricity consumption. i am still learning how to use mine so i dont have favorite yet but sod far beef and potatoes is the best hit to him haha. takecare and have a great time cooking!

Hey Jairgirl, that is definitly coincidental! I've never eaten duck before but I"m willing to try. Now that I know that it saves on the electricity bill I'm going to use it more than the oven probably. I'll have to let my hubby know about that as well so he uses it too just as much as I will! Thanks for the heads up and you have a great time cooking too! Maybe we can swap recipes sometime once I know more of what I'm doing? haha

haha, very interesting ei? anyway, regarding the duck, i have tasted them in the past but never cooked them so that is just an experiment on my part, i cooked it like the way i cooked my thanks giving turkey, i found out that the meat of duck is softer than the turkey so i end up over cooking it so when i roasted it it was like beat up duck haha. i hope you keep using it (sake of loving cooking and saving energy), it sure is a great way to cook food and i honestly feel that it is more nutritious haha. sure, i would love to swap some recipes with you once i come up with a good one, i dont want to embarrassed myself haha. i am not sure if you know this site (no i dont own it LOL) but i often go there to look for new recipe and ideas www.allrecipes.com they have varieties of cuisine there and there are bunch of slow cookers as well. anyway, just PM me whenever you feel like it, haha takecare and have fun cooking

Yes I have two crockpots actually. And I have used them both at the same time. I love making roasts, pork chops, lasagna and so many other things in my crockpot. There are a lot of crockpot recipes sites on the net and i bet i've looked at them all. They have come a long way from the first one I got when I first married 24 years ago. So good luck with your crockpot and if you need some good recipes just let me know I'll share. :-)

Hello sherrycarl, Just curious, when you make chilli, or lasagna, do you have to brown your hamburger first? Or do you just throw it in there and let it cook? I'll have to read some recipes online. Thanks for your comment

Yes brown your ground beef before you add it to the crockpot. Large cuts of meat such as a roast, pork chops, chicken etc can be put in uncooked, but always cook ground beef.

Truth be told...I could not live without my crock pot. It is the most used item in my kitchen. Almost every recipe can be adjusted to being cooked in a crock pot. From appetizers to desserts. I have some healthy crock pot recipes on my blog at http://diabetic-recipes.blogdrive.com My favorite is roast and vegetables or round steak and gravy Then the bar-b-q ribs that come out so tender you don't need a knife when eating them. Once you start using your crock pot you will have more time to visit all of us here in Mylot. It saves you time and money, even the tough cuts of meat comes out tender and juicy.

My hubby sure was impressed with it Now my next goal is to buy a bread maker Thanks for posting

I used my crock pot yesterday. I let my pot roast sit in there all day long, Unfortunately I am very sick right now, so my appetite is down and I can not taste anything. So it was a waste for me. The rest of the house enjoyed it though. lol. I love to use a crock pot. A good thing to make is take the mexican velveta and put it in there with browned hamburger meat and leave it on and just scoop it out as you go. Great party favor.

I love our crockpot, I use it alot. It may take a bit longer to make stuff in it, but it's much cleaner and you can make pretty much anything in them. I enjoy making chili and other dishes such as porkchops, chicken or whatever you can think up. The great thing is you just dump whatever you want into the pot then leave it alone. That in itself makes it worth alot to me!

Hi maliki, When you make meat do you have to brown it first? My hubby was making chilli and he came online to find some recipes for it and found that all the recipes instucted him to brown the meat first. Thanks for your comment
