May is National Foster Parent Month

United States

I just wanted to remind everyone to say a warm thanks to Foster Parents. We celebrate Foster Parents in May, but that is not all, it is a chance to draw attention to the thousands of children in the USA, and abroad who are looking for permanent homes. Foster Parents have one of the hardest jobs in the world, you bring strangers into your home, they stay anywhere from 6 months to years. You open your heart to these precious children, you fall in love, then you try and teach them how to lead normal healthy lives. Just when you think you have made progress, it is time for the children to be reunited with their Biological families, and the most you can hope for is the family will let you keep contact, (Does not happen often). So if you know one of these angels tell them thank you this month, tell them you appreciate what they do, and give them a hug. Have you church or organization have a Foster Parents day, and while you are at it.... May is also Undie Sundie month. What is this? The National Foster and Adoptive Parent Assoc. started this day to collect, underwear, socks, and toiletries for Foster Children. Most of the time when they come into the system, they have nothing but the cloths on their backs, Foster Parents have to wait a month to get funds to buy things for the children, and sometimes it is a tight month, so that is what this wonderful cause is for. We ask all church congregations to set aside one Sunday to have their members bring these items, they are then collected by a representative either from DSS, or your local Foster Parent group. This is a worth while project, and all donations go directly to the children. So get involved this year. You can make a difference in the life of a child, become a Foster/Adoptive Parent.
