Yes, learning chinese is a hype in Indonesia these days. after english courses a trend in the 80's and 90's. after that japanese is the top languange courses at beginning of 2000. Now seems like everywhere I turned, I saw lots of Chinese learning languange courses. More and more people are interesting to learn Chinese right now. Me too. I can hear very well for Mandarin but not very good at speaking it. Not to mention zero in writing. I cannot even write my Chinese name.

Chinese is very popular in Los Angeles area. Cal Poly Pomona has quite a few people that speak chinese. Overall i do not think that the majority of the US is in favor of Chinese but i would say that it is rapidly growing. I myself have quite a few friends that speak chinese.

I don't learn Chinese, or any other language, personally, but I'm all for it, and hope to in the future. I think it's great to be able to communicate with other people in their native language, and just have that extra knowledge. I think that it's great that a lot of Western Countries are really starting to learn other languages and know how important it is - especially with the large amount of business being done with Chinese, Japanese and other Asian countries, it's important to be able to communicate well. =) I don't have anything negative to say about China or anywhere else in the world =)
