In 2007, 161 cases if human rights violations have been committed against 16,466 workers from the informal and formals sectors in the Philippines. 3 union leaders have been killed while numerous others have been abducted, forcibly disappeared, or tortured. Among those killed are Renato Pacaide, Charlie Solayao, and Antonio Mercado. This year, the latest casualty in the fight for worker's genuine rights in the Philippines is Gerry Cristobal. He was ambushed during early morning traffic and was gunned down using high caliber firearms. What is the Philippine government doing about the trend of Trade Union repression? NONE!
