Simple recipes

Have you ever been asked by someone if you would like to try a very simple recipe? A couple of days ago, I was at the grocery store and I was approached by this little lady. She asked if I did any baking. I said yes and she told me she had a very simple recipe for a great layer cake. Spray a layer pan, 9x13. Layer the bottom of the pan with mini marshmallows. Prepare a cake mix package, I used a yellow cake mix. Pour over the marshmallows. DO NOT STIR TOGETHER. Then open a can of pie filling and spoon on top of the cake mix. Put in oven to bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes. Oh laa-laa! What a cake!! and so simple!!! The marshmallow comes to the top and the pie filling goes to the bottom. A pleasant surprise. Have you had anything like this happen to you and could you share your recipe?

Wow! No, I have never had anyone who out of the blue came up to me like that if they weren't being paid by the store to market particular products, anyway. But, what a great baking idea!!! I'm not much on baking because I don't eat a lot of cake, but that sounds way simple and you did it and proved it works, so I'm thinking, since I DO like Black Forest Cake, it might be worth trying with chocolate cake mix and cherry pie filling! Yeah - that does sound good. Or, spice cake mix with apple pie filling. Hmmmmm - I sense a trend here!!!

My favorite recipes are simple ones. Don't know if that says anything about me or not (LOL), but the simpler the better. After I posted that, I shared the recipe idea with some friends and thought the even peach pie filling might work with the spice cake. Yeah - when I go shopping again for me and Mom, I think I'm going to pick up a couple cake mixes and some cherry pie filling. We already have apple pie filling on hand. Mom's a big cake fan.

Quick questions - do you follow the baking directions on the cake mix (time and temp) and do you leave it in the pan to serve it? I can't imagine turning it over to get it out. Would be messy, I think.

When people know that you are a contest cook, they have a tendency to give you all kinds recipes to try! :) The latest one that I'm working on is a cajun stuffed soup with crab and crawfish! :) Haven't quite gotten it ready yet, so I can't share it here but here's a Recipe Matcher for you! :) http://www.apsense.com/subject/21544.html

Hi Peaceful, Very nice site there, thank you. I am always looking for something or other, I'm sure it will come in handy. I am of Cajun descent, and love cajun recipes. I was born in Louisiana, but moved to Washington state a long time ago, so I horde cajun reciped that I find. I love the spiciness of these dishes, and their simplicity. It is always an adventure when I try new recipes, and I love it. Have a nice day..
