I was at a Chinese restaurant tonight ordering a to go. I parked next to an Ambulance that was running. It wasn't there for emergency purposes. When I went in the restaurant the paramedics were getting their plates in the buffet line. So there they are wasting gas since there is no one in the ambulance. I was just wondering why they do this? Honestly is there any real reason to leave it running while you just go eat. They weren't in a hurry either. They were taking their time. It kinda bugged me. Tell me what you think.

Well or they just do not care because they do not pay for the gas. Or else when the car is on it enables communication devices so they be reached whenever. I don't know why they would keep it running for this as pure electricity is enough to handle the communications. Maybe they needed to power up the battery? who knows.

I know the emergency radios don't need the ambulance to be running to work...at least none of the radios I've seen. Plus even if the ambulance radios required the ambulance to be running...they could have shut it off while they ate since they would be using their personal radios inside anyway. I didn't thinnk about the gas it burns up! Maybe that explains the horrendous per mile charge when they actually are transporting a patient.

I agree with both of you. The gas is $3.83 a gallon here and the people that need to use an ambulance have to pay for the gas that they burn up eating dinner somewhere. I don't know for sure but I might just ask one of them someday. Thanks for responding.
