Do you tell the truth about your age?

When you meet someone new, or the subject of age comes up, do you tell the truth, or fib a little? Personally, I've never had a problem telling people how old I was. This is probably because people usually assume I'm younger than I am, and it's always fun to shock people with my true age. But my grandmother always insisted she was 29, till she died at the ripe age of... well, I'm not sure, exactly, though I think she was in her 80s. :)

I've actually had to stop and do the math sometimes. Someone will ask me how old I am, and I'll say "21" right off the top of my head. Then I have to go, "wait, no... how old am I?" :)

Of course I tell the truth about my age. I have nothing to gain by not telling people how old or young I really am. I don't see any benefit to lying about one's age. People who do that, in my mind, are insecure.

I am like you, in that I usually have no problem with telling someone my age. But when it comes to a new acquaintance, I won't tell. I feel that it is too soon for them to want to know. If the subject comes in conversation, well it depends on whom I am conversing with. I like the fact that either way it is my business, so I sometimes tell, or say "that's personal" or "I rather not say." Like I say, we me it all depends on the person(s) involved or the circumstances.

I tell people how old I am, but first I make them guess. lol I'll probably stop doing that around the time people stop asking to see my license when I buy things that require an ID.

My physical age is 56 My mental age is around 21 My actual appearance age is around 35/40 I don't mind admitting my age although there are times when I like to fool people into thinking I am younger than I actually am. Like you, people are quite surprised when I admit my real age.

Yeah, I don't mind telling people my age, though I know a few people who like to lie about it. It's interesting the way people think, ya know? Like lying is going to make them younger or something... kinda silly, really ^^

I am in the same situation as you. My hubby and I are 35 (me) and 36 (him) and, we both still look like we are in out low to mid 20's so, when people ask, we sometimes will try to make them guess and, they always guess more than a decade lower. So, we also have fun seeing their shock when we tell them how old we really are. Most people guess me for between 21 and 24 although, as recent as about 6 months ago, someone said they would have guessed me as between 16 and 19! Freaking yay! Seriously! That rocked my world! So, no...I never lie about my age! To me, it is just a number! One of our neighbors tried to lie to us about her age. But, the hubby caught on and kept calling her out on it! She will be 40 this year and we have known them for around 6 years (+/-). In that time, she first told us the was 34. The next year, she told us she was 33. The following year, she was back to 34. LOL! But, now that the hubby keeps calling her out on it, she is getting better about admitting her real age. But, she really only tries to lie to my hubby. With me, she is more honest! LOL! I guess it is an insecurity for her around men but, not women! LOL! My mom has never lied about her age. And, none of my other friends do either. That is funny about your Grandmother! LOL! I bet she was a firey kind of woman too! Probably playful! Am I right?

Yeah, I honestly think most people just assume I'm 21 because they would suspect I'm out of college, based on my job. (Never mind the fact that I have a master's degree...) If it weren't for that, I think I would get the 16-19 range a lot as well. :) And yes, my grandma was very playful and lots of fun. :)

I usually tell the truth about my age, I am 17 and usually say that I am 17, unless I am in a bar or something where you have to be 18, so I say I am 18. I don't think that it is that big a deal as I will be 18 in September, which is only 3 months away. An old woman live over the road and she was 73, so she swapped the numbers and said she was 37 lol.

I have never had a problem telling anyone what my age neither and I have never understood why somebody would lie about his/her age, Does it actually matter if you lie?

Just my opinion, but I can't really see the point in lying about what age you are, as there's nothing we can do about getting older and the age we are is simply the number of years we've lived. I can see how maybe some younger people are tempted to lie about their age in order to be able to do age-restricted things, such as get into clubs that have a minimum age limit.....but maybe those limits are in force for a reason, and life goes by so fast that you won't have long to wait until you are the right age to do these things. As for wanting to pretend you're younger than you are when you go past a certain age, I suppose that's pandering to society's false idea that it's somehow "cool" to be young, and that anyone over a certain age is "past it". As life goes on, time passes faster and faster and when we reach a certain level of maturity, we realise that it's actually OK to be old, that it's OK to be young - that it's OK to be ANY age, because it's just what we are. Being old doesn't stop a person being human and feeling young inside of their heads (even if their body shows otherwise), and being young doesn't necessarily indicate that a person lacks experience in life. I just think if people en masse were not to worry about age so much, then we'd all be able to live in greater harmony with one another. Maybe your grandmother felt 29 in her head?

Yes, I'm sure that my grandma did always feel 29. She loved to take us to do kid stuff when we were younger, and while she wasn't running around and climbing with us, you could tell she loved watching us be young, because it made her feel young. :)

Sounds like you've got lots of good memories of your grandma, and that having you around her helped her feel young. She sounds like a lovely lady.

Well, since I am finding myself in the brginning stages of what people only a five years younger than me refer to as "your that old" stage...I decided I tell the truth. A couple of years I ago I cried and cried on my birthdays realizing how I was leaving my 20's, but then when I hit 30 I stopped crying. And I realized that I finally knew who I was and the drama of the 20's left me. Now when I hear that stupid statement I just tell them I own my age, my age does not own me.

Thanks, it helps a lot when you look in the mirror and realize you are not exactly who you used to be, you're better and wiser. Plus, who wants to be a slave to a number. Just like people in general you cannot let them/it get you down.

Yes I do tell the truth because I believe that the truth should always be told whatever the situation is. And the framework of a good relation is truth.

I also don't have any problem of revealing my real age though, when I was younger, I always tease people by telling them that I am older than my real age and that was just a tease or joke, how they will react since a lot of my friends,w ill say that I am matured , the way I act and behave! but, this time, i am glad to know that people will always guess my age a little younger than the truth! Great!LOL!

I am very truthful about my age. Some people think I'm older than I really am because I have three children and some think I'm too young to have three children. So I have to be Honest either way.

Hello there, I will tell the true about my age as age for me is only a number. Luckily, I look younger than my age, so I don't mind letting people know my true age and being proud of my youth look after revealing the true age. LOL
