I just wrote an article for my freelance job on that very subject. Recycling is very important now days. We need to replenish and stop depleting.

i agree with thyaga recycleing is the best way to save environment as loads of resources are getting exhausted every day. in my office we have specially deisgned sytem wer the wastes formt he restrooms are collected recycled and treated with suitable chemicals and used for gardening cleaning purposes..we save abt 2 lac rupees just by recycling water..we have planted a 1000 tress 3 yrs back to keep our campus green by which the whole temp of the campus hass reduced by 4 degrees which is very much considerable ina city full of pollution.

We have the canvas bags so that we do not get so many plastic bags to return to the store for recycling there. We also do organic gardening so that it does not kill the soil but return vegetables in return. We also try to get products that are packed in recyclable containers.

I try to do my bit when it comes to recycling. It is fairly easy here in England as the local Council tend to collect some of the garbage specifically to recycle. So all cans, large plastic items like milk cartons, and newspapers etc., can be put out with the garbage, in a separate green box and away it goes. I am also conscious of switching things off at home so as not to waste electricity, water etc. It doesn't take much and we can all do our bit.
