How many editions?

How many editions does Sims have. I only was able to play the first one. I'm not even sure if it's the first.

2 editions. Sims one with I think 8 expansion packs and then there is the sims 2 (the sims in full 3D) with 6 expansion packs and some stuff packs.
Sims 3 is coming i thing end 2008 or begin 2009, i'm not sure, i don't follow it, cause it doesn't seem to have much differences with the sims 2
